Jaylen Brown #2 on NBA.com Rookie Ladder

He's been pretty respectable off the bench so far.  It's a great sign.  He looked awful in Summerleague and was really inefficient in Preseason.   I hope he can continue being this serviceable and efficient in the bench role.  It's been really encouraging so far.

He did not look awful in summer league.  He looked inexperienced, but created a lot of contact, which got him to the line a lot. His scoring average was actually quite good.  Don't forget that many others, including me, watched summer league games. All of them. 

I know you are now going to recite a lot of garbage stats about his FG and FT %, how he couldn't finish, etc.  He got hurt his first or second game, but you will ignore that fact.

I don't need to recite why he was awful in Summer League.  He just was.  He didn't look at all NBA ready.  He was below average against garbage competition.

... which is why it's so encouraging he's been mildly respectable so far in his first 3 games against pros.  I hope that's a sign that Jaylen is a quick learner.

I can see why both points were made, but I honestly thought he had a great summer league and gave us reasons to be optimistic. He drew contact and was playing pretty good defense. Besides Rozier, Brown really showed people why he was the 3rd pick over other players. With that said from then until now, it looks like he greatly improved his shot after contact. It has been a lot noticeable for me at least in the summer league, he was barely grabbed in most cases but could not finish (got the foul call though!), since preseason until now, it seemed to me he is finishing better around the rim.

Another reason could have been the coaching in SL vs coaching in preseason and during the season. With Brad now coaching him, he is integrated into our system and playing with better players, which in a way could only help him more. In limited minutes during the season, I am loving what I am seeing from him and wish to see more!

I too thought he had a great Summer League.  Watched every game.

I was also really impressed by him in summer league. He was great getting to the line.

What I saw was a guy who advanced rapidly; even the knee injury didn't seem to hinder his progress.

I think that if you looked only at his first few games you'd probably go away unimpressed. But in a short time he was demonstrating what his unusual combination of fine motor skills and relentless work ethic can bring.

I only stayed for the 1st half last night but I when he was in the game he was assigned to Rondo.  If that is not impressive for a 6'7", 240 lb rookie, I am not sure what is.

Brad probably wanted to use his length to stop Rondo from getting into the offense. That, and Jaylen is still rather weak defensively. He might play the offensive player perfectly well, but at the last moment, he either falls for a pump fake, or somehow fades back, away from the offensive player, thus giving him a clear look at the basket. He seems to have a little bit of a weak core. Gets pushed around a little too easy. At the time, my guess is that Brad wanted a guy like Avery or Marcus to guard Butler/Wade.

Side note: where is he 240lb? The celtics website has him at 225.

Covering Rondo is easy.  Just sag off him and let him shoot.  He is the easiest defensive assignment on the court.  Sagging that way makes it harder to box him out but who cares if you give up a couple of offensive rebounds.

I like Brown.  it is very promising to see a just 20 year old rookie actually playing with the big boys.  Remember rookie Avery Bradley or rookie Marcus Smart?  It is impossible to project what development curve any player will stay on but Brown is off to a terrific start.  I suspect that Brown will develop to some degree in fits and starts, meaning he will surge ahead and then hit walls.  Work at it, get past a wall and hit another one.  We'll see how many of those walls he is able to scale.

I was at the game also. I thought the fourth foul on Brown was bogus. Maybe the posters on here who saw a replay can help me out with that one.

Thought Brown looked really good during his early shoot around. He struck me as someone who cares a great deal about his craft. He was out there 2 hours before the game. Hit a ton of threes. I remember telling my buddy that I think Jaylen is going to hit a few threes. He hit his first and then the second was halfway down. Then he never came back in. Does anyone know why? Was it as simple as Gerald Green got his minutes or did Brown mess up a play?

Side note on Rozier. Thought it was an odd move taking Roz out in the fourth. He hit a three and a tough layup and looked like he was going to hit some more shots. We got the win but I think the team needed Roz's offense there. Luckily IT saved this team again

My prediction on Jaylen hitting threes was off by a game. He was very impressive in his pre game session that I saw. He went through a streak of maybe missing two shots out of maybe 18-19 threes. This game tonight is not a fluke. He has the ability.

I think it's too early for that. He has to earn the trust of his teammates.
