Remember when everyone here was complaining about Danny picking Jaylen?
Good times.

If you're going to run with that comment, you have to answer 2 questions.  At the time of the draft:

1. Did you believe Jaylen was a better player and/or had a higher ceiling than Dunn?

2. Did you believe Jaylen was the clear choice at #3?
After Simmons and Ingram, I really didn't have a preference.  I was fine with Ainge selecting Brown as an upside pick.  The only reason I would have chosen Dunn was to facilitate a trade for either Noel or Okafor.

He's been pretty respectable off the bench so far.  It's a great sign.  He looked awful in Summerleague and was really inefficient in Preseason.   I hope he can continue being this serviceable and efficient in the bench role.  It's been really encouraging so far.

So far the rookie class looks like crap as a whole, but that was expected.  Outside of Simmons and Ingram, this draft was seen as very weak.  Tier-3 players at best outside of those two guys.  Simmons is injured and Ingram is more of a long-term project than a player expected to make an immediate impact.  So what we're left with is kinda bleh.    Embiid should run away with ROY if he stays healthy.  Still might see the veteran rookies like Hield and Dunn make some noise this year, though.

1. Yes - higher ceiling
2. Not clear but a possibility at #3

There is a difference between being surprised that Brown was picked at #3 and complaining about Brown being picked.

I hope he didn't recommend his agent fried to Jaylen.

Now is the time for people to temper their expectations about Brown. He just had a good game against a tough foe. The game before he looked bad with 4 fouls in 8 minutes. There are still a lot of ups and downs to be had before Brown grows into the player he will be.

Still, it'll be fun to watch.  :)
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

The one compliment I havent heard Lebron say about rookies is "strong"

Brown must be really strong for his age. Can you imagine in a year or two how much stronger he will be. Definitely has the frame to fill out.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Absolutely there will be 'downs' (and there have been some awkward ones so far), but it's nice to see that he is able to hit an open corner 3, seeing as how that was seen as a major weakness.

But sometimes with rookies and young players, you can just see an 'it' factor. I remember it back in '99 with Pierce and then again with Rondo in '06. They just move a certain way, have a different mindset for the game. Jaylen may not be a future superstar, but I think people are happy with where his development level is so far and see so much more potential (obviously not a finished product).

Yeah it's funny because matched up against Lebron he looked like a twig.

TP Triboy. This is exactly what has me thinking this kid will be a machine. He has a work ethic that is through the roof (by all accounts, who knows in reality what it is.) This leads me to believe that he will kill it in the gym. But lets be conservative here, and say he only gains 10 pounds of muscle. Imagine him going to the rim at 6'7 235lbs with a 7'0 wingspan and the handles of a guard. Who could stop him at the rim? This kid will make people bounce off of him.

Its so fun to actually have someone who could become a world class level athlete.

Didn't look like a twig when he sealed LeBron off and dunked.

funny i had that exact same thought yesterday, I thought the kid wasn't going to play well against LeBron but he held his own very well. And then I thought, hey this kid can still grow, I'm not asking or hoping he has LeBron's physique but I'll take it for 235. As of now, he already has the speed and raw strength, imagine if he could really pack on a few more pounds

i was all for jaylen because of his size  and athleticism, his speed in transition
my favoring him was also a result of james young and rj  physiques while jalen like winslow and stanley johnson and myles turner all had nba bodies-i loved jeff green athleticism and people talk about his inconsistency -well the guy had his heart ripped out
and still is playing well and inconsistently
smart, brown, rozier, jackson, yabusele, zizic, nader all nba bodies -all ready to play defense
