Was listening to the Zach Lowe/Brian WIndhorst podcast and they discuss Embiid quite a bit.  They compare him to a baby giraffe.  Simply breathtaking to behold, but clearly has no idea what he's doing yet.  They suggest that he's probably at like 10% of what he'll eventually become.  SO yeah, obviously it remains to be seen if Embiid will reach his full potential.  But a dude who is able to torch Steven Adams, Dwight Howard and bully big men like Vucevic within his first 3 games... he's already an impact player even if he doesn't reach his sky high ceiling.

If you want to compare him to a breathtaking young big man who hasn't yet reached his ceiling, compare him to Karl Towns.   Bringing up Gerald Green is asinine.

You can't be serious.

Show me where I compared Embiid to Gerald.

And, surprise, surprise. Copy paste the forum link into your browser, and it takes you to one of his animated gifs where he accuses everyone in the thread of calling Embiid a bust.

I find it very frustrating that that sort of posting is allowed on such a quality board.
my theory is that he generates more clicks

Which is undeniable

Larbrd is the lebron of this forum

Polarizing figure. Not aesthetically pleasing, but gets the job (clicks) done with the home dingers

I'm mostly fine with LarBrd's posts on here. And some of his pseudo-trolling/pseudo-trying-to-prove-a-point posts are ok, but only to a certain extent.

Stuff like this, it's just overboard. It's, as you said, trolling. I perfectly understood exactly what you meant, and what you asked of LarBrd. He's just trying now to muddle up the whole thread.

LarBrd, do you have a lot of free time on your hands? You're almost always on here. Almost always writing these elaborate and long comments that often times don't even address the previous comment or the topic of the thread. You make all these gifs and videos, you had your Noel twitter picture thing earlier this summer. How do you have the time to do all this man?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

I found it funny.  My bad.  I apologize if my hilarious animated gif offended anyone.  I don't think it's getting the full credit it deserves as arguably the most creative post in the history of Celticsblog.

I'm kidding around.  Relax.

You don't need me to point you in the direction of a post you made.  I said that you'd have to be blind to not see the potential of that Philly team.  Obviously referring to Embiid since this thread is about him, but also a reference to Ben Simmons... both are widely seen as transcendent prospects.

For whatever reason you decided to follow that up by saying anyone that couldn't see Gerald Green's potential was blind.  It was an intentionally asinine comparison and you know it.  Green was taken 18th.  Few saw him as a "cant miss" prospect.   Nobody realistically saw Gerald Green as a guy you could build a franchise around.  There's a clear difference.

The player I used in the example is irrelevant.

My point wasn't as crystal clear as it could have been, but my point remains.

Be it Gerald, Oden, Ryan Leaf, or any athlete who has a lot of potential, that potential isnt always realized.

Yes the 76ers have a lot of potential with the players on their roster. To just assume that potential is going to be realized is foolish. Green is just one example of potential not being realized.

You are a smart guy, and I believe you are being intentionally obtuse.

I think Embiid looks very good.  How can there be an argument or debate about that.  The only "if" and it is a big "IF" is his foot.  If he stays healthy, it looks to me that he will be a star, a franchise player.  You can debate if you think his foot or back or whatever will hold up because who knows but he is showing generational talent.

A lot of bigs who ended up having major foot problems seemed to have funny gaits.  Embiid just looks like an athlete.  That may have nothing to do with his foot but he looks like a guy who is going to be able to stay on the court for a good run.

I hope Embiid keeps it up and I hope Philly trades either Okafor or Noel to us.  We could use a good young big in the mix.

I wouldn't use the word "potential" if I didn't understand there was a possibility it wouldn't work out for them.

But for someone to post some advanced stats based on 3 basketball games where Embiid is limited to 20 minutes, Okafor is limited to 14 minutes, Ben Simmons is months away from playing, Nerlens Noel is weeks away from playing, their starting PG still hasn't made his debut, and the team is undeniablly at least a year or two away from being competitive - is silly.

Anyone who doesn't see the obvious potential of that team at this point is blind.

You only bring up Gerald Green if you're attempting to be distasteful.  When someone says "potential" it goes without saying that potential might not be fulfilled.  It's merely the capacity to develop into something, not a guarantee it will happen.

If you want to bring up a relevant comparison, discuss Anthony Davis and the Pelicans.  They have a superstar and still haven't become a contender.

Embiid looks good. Still can't say with certainty that he will remain healthy. That's always been the question, because there is no doubt he is a future HOF.

2nd, why are we ignoring the fact that Lbrrd who loves the sixers, have clearly diminished the values of their other centers? According to Lbbrd, wasn't Noel supposed to be a future DOP of the year? He's in his 4th year now and have to say he hasn't been great. So I always take his optimisim with a grain of salt when it comes to Philly.
That's adorable that you think I'm powerful enough to diminish the trade value of a basketball player.

And yes, Noel has the defensive potential to some day DPOY.   He looks like he'll be the odd man out in Philly, though with Embiid and Okafor looking like future stars.   It'll be interesting to see what they get for Noel in trade... assuming I haven't diminished his trade value too much.

Also, I don't love the Sixers.  I just think it's an interesting team and most people here don't understand what they've accomplished.

Make jokes all you want because at the end of the day you were wrong about Noel's trade value. Just like you'll be wrong about Okafor's trade value. Don't get me wrong, Okafor can score, but they have no leverage. Can't wait to see what the Colangelo's do. I actually thought Hinkie was a better GM.

And yes you do love the sixers. If Jaylen Brown was on the Sixers, you would be praising him as the second coming of Michael Jordan.

I have yet to see you be objective about them. You're already pronouncing Simmons as their savior, and saying Embiid is going to stay healthy. I didn't realize you were a doctor.

Like Anthony Davis is on the Pelicans and they suck. Just because you have talent, doesn't necessarily mean you will win.

Keep stewing though baby. I love your posts. They're entertaining.

Anyways, you bring up some good points.  But I also think it's important to stress that Embiid is a human internet Meme.  And until the hilarity of his existence subsides, we can't take posts about him too seriously.  Also, it's very important to stress that http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=87232.msg2176280#msg2176280 didn't get nearly enough credit as being a next-level Home Dinger.  I'm feeling very underappreciated right now.

That's clearly not true.  Dario Saric is on the 76ers, is arguably better than Jaylen, and I haven't compared him to Michael Jordan once.

Almost always writing these elaborate and long comments that often times don't even address the previous comment or the topic of the thread. You make all these gifs and videos, you had your Noel twitter picture thing earlier this summer. How do you have the time to do all this man?
I found it funny.  My bad. I apologize if my hilarious animated gif offended anyone.  I don't think it's getting the full credit it deserves as arguably the most creative post in the history of Celticsblog.

And yeah, I'm editing video all day so I'm pretty much always online.

Nah it's not even that lol.
I personally lol'd very hard.  Very big lol.  Significant lol.  That's how I measure it.

bruh. not gonna lie, i chuckled at reading this whole encounter over again
I'm feeling very underappreciated right now.

yeah i know. every top post on r/nba is about him, lol.

dont worry, i appreciate the gif. it was very much a home dinger. like i said, it was just the timing of it at the time of the discussion.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Anyways. Back to Embiid. Looks like we wanted to trade up for him. But it was not a good enough offer for them
