We drafted Brown at #3 because he had the best chance of anyone at that spot to become a superstar. This team needs a superstar.

We're not trading Brown unless it's part of a package that gets us a superstar in return. Cousins or Westbrook are probably the one two we would move him for, and we wouldn't Do it for Westbrook unless he signs long term.

Brown's performance in the last 3 SL games increases his value from long-term potential to a guy who may  break into the rotation this season.  I think if he tips the scale in a trade for Cousins, Westbrook, Butler or Griffin, you have to trade him.    He has less trade value than the 2017 swap -- though that could change by trade deadline with a great start to his career (doubtful] or a decent start to the year by the Nets (also doubtful)..

There are no untradeable players for DA.

Obviously there's always going to be at least 5-10 guys Danny would consider trading JB for, but in general it seems highly unlikely that he's on the block.

Danny's been looking for an athletic flexible guard/forward who can defend, get to the rim, and shoot since his first year as Celtics GM and this is literally the first time he's managed to draft one.

This is the same GM who was obsessed with Stromile Swift and tried to trade four first round picks for Justice Winslow.

My guess is that as long as Danny's GM of the Celtics Jaylen Brown will be a Celtic.

You never know.

But if you want to trade a pick the best time is after the pick order is determined and before the pick selection is made.

Different teams would have made different choices with that #3.

If (that's a big if) Ainge intends to trade Brown it would make a lot more sense to let him play some NBA games first to convince other teams of his value.

This.  Jaylene Brown is useless to other teams, and I won't blame teams for not wanting him.  So, yea, we are stuck with him.

LOL  . . . . . you still haven't forgiven Danny for not trading on draft night.
We could have traded down 5-7 and still grabbed Jaylen so the value is just not there right now to get back what we would want, especially with other like players(stanley johnson, winslow, and etc.).
Still would have been much smarter to have drafted Dunn and waited, especially with Philly getting more and more desperate and lowering costs.

At this point I think there's good reason to wait until mid-season. See how Brown develops and what the BKN pick looks like.

If neither looks like it'll yield a franchise-type outcome, move them and go all in on "win now." Add a star using those assets, and try to land another in FA next summer. Shoot for 2-3 years of contention.

I don't think Brown is going anywhere, at least not now. I figure he'll be able to get some playing time off the bench this season since we don't exactly have great depth at the wing spot. Basedo of his ability to defend and his NBA ready body, I could see him eased in with 15-18 minutes per game.

Assertion, facts not in evidence. You have no idea whether he'd be there. Phoenix could easily have taken him instead of Bender had he been available.

Not unless its a clear win. That pick had more value as the #3 pick, so prices would have had to come down a whole lot in order for Danny to pull the trigger.

Not at all guaranteed you can ever trade down and still get the guy you want. Just because he's mocked 5th doesn't mean the team picking 4th isn't secretly high on him. If he was good in Celtics workouts he was probably good in other teams' workouts too. Can't risk missing out on your guy just to pick up an extra pick that you don't even have a roster spot for anyway.

The upside for this kid is an athletic Evan Turner with a 3 point shot - and a top level defender on top of that.  No way.
Turner is a terrific finisher at the rim and a terrific passer who does an excellent job weaving his way to the basket. He is also a terrific mid range shooter. His defense is not great but his length allows him to be solid. He lacks elite explosion and a 3 point shot.

Jaylen Brown is a superexplosive athlete who gets to the rim by exploding past defenders and bullying his way to the rim. Hes like a 1 cut running back. Hes a poor natural finisher and lives at the free throw line. He currently has a very eh midrange game and his passing ability is nothing to write home about.

I dont get the comp at all.

I see him as either a super explosive Jae Crowder or a super aggressive but less gifted Jeff Green

You think that's his upside? I would say that he has the potential to be a more athletic, better-defending Derozan, which is a multiple-time, if not perennial, All-Star.

I don't necessarily like the Crowder comparisons. He's limited to straight-line drives due to his limited handle and athleticism, but he's much more built and solid than Brown.

Other than their athleticism, I don't like the Green comparisons either. He's already a better ball-handler than Green, and he's a 2/3 where Green is a 3/4, same with Crowder.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

While he may be athletic, he looks a certain measure of gangly and uncoordinated to me. Like someone who quickly grew into a large body and is still learning what to do with it. Let's hope he'll figure it out.

Also, ballhandling in particular doesn't look like a strength by now. It's horribly early, but if I had to guess, I'd say he's got a better chance to play the 4 than the 2.
