I don't think one can dispute that he's a stand-up guy and plays the game the right way. I don't think he's a max-level type impact player, though.

Can't think of it in those terms, the market is completely out of whack.  If Mozgov and Turner are worth 60-75 million, Horford is worth 100 all day...

I think you will see a spike in his offensive out put with Brad.  I bet he is in the 17 to 18 pts a game with 7-9 rebounds...

Completely agree. If you want to fuss about Horford's contract, fuss at the market. Not the Celtics and not Horford.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Is Conley a 150mill player? I mean 30 mill a year for a guy whos never made an All Star team? He averages 15ppg and 5apg. Horford Does 15ppg and 7rpg. I know these numbers are new, but paying Horford 23mill ish a season doesn't break the bank, and doesn't hurt the cap next summer. Some one would have payed it, just glad it was us for once. And shows people ownership isn't cheap and aren't willing to pay.

They aren't. We don't have to hand out bad deals just because other front offices do.

I thought he was worth something closer to 23 or so mil, but with the market being as it is, I have no problem with the max.

what's your solution then?  stand pat?  give the money to fat sully? Horford is a 4x all-star that makes this team better offensively and defensively, the C's are better today then they were yesterday.  I don't see the problem adding a all-star player to a 48 win team....

Definitely.  He's been playing alongside another all star big in Atlanta, but here he'll be playing next to guys like Amir Johnson (guys who aren't bad, but also aren't gonna be taking shots away from him)
I'm bitter.

He's worth the max, he doesn't provide the same surplus value that LBJ/KD/etc MVP level guys provide but he's comfortably worth the max.

Especially given that its a 4 year deal, all the deals are so short now that giving out the max is so different than the days of the 7 year albatross contracts.

We had this discussion already. He's also a 30-year old showing signs of decline, and has been pretty much a non-factor in the playoffs. He has "complementary player" written all over him -- as good as they come, but still complementary.

The only saving grace of this deal is that if we're planning to retain our core (Thomas, Crowder, Bradley) over the next 3-4 years, then we can afford to overpay for lesser players because it's better than eating cap space. Timing.
