Sully is just going to walk.  No idea why people are forcing all these trade ideas.   Must be bored.

he's a restricted free agent though, not unrestricted.  We can match offers.  Not to say Danny necessarily wants to match to keep him, but he won't let him go away for nothing.  If someone wants to offer him a ridiculous contract, then yes, he can walk because we can choose not to match.  However, Danny may have a few tricks of his sleeve to utilize the situation where he goes and still gets something in return.

I like Sully too.. but the future as it looks will probably be brighter without him.
Play to win.  Always.

Why not?

I think Ainge is willing to let him walk though because he has so much.  Roster space is at a premium and he has some promising young players already he could bring in.  I really don't see a chance he resigns him.  I think Ainge has been very diplomatic but reading into his talk thinks Sully needs to get better and as I said in my post, I don't see the drive or insight into his own game that shows he will.

Also, look at how Ainge is coveting his cap space.  I think he loved adding Horford and will roll through or into next year with space to sign another star and assets to trade for one.  He wants the flexibility.  Bringing back Sully really would hurt that and again for a guy that really doesn't fit the team.

We have three young bigs (Mickey, Yabusele, and Zizic) I would love to see get a little time over Sully.  Plus Horford and keep in mind Jerebko wasn't consistently playing and I feel like he will this year at PF (barring a signing and him not returning).  One benefit of being a team with a lot of picks is you can utilize young talent while it's cheap and let the weaker pieces walk when they need to get paid.

Not that trade we can't.  In general, yes.

Sully maybe going somewhere else in a 3-way Smart and a 1st for Okafur?

kinda think so, because we haven't picked up on the Jerebko and Johnson contracts yet. I think Danny's trying to work something out.

This article is timed perfectly.

Amir and Jerebko have both been told they're contracts will be guaranteed.

Yes, but they extended the moratorium to the 7th. This means we could do something today before officially picking up their options.

I'd offer Rozier, Young, Memphis 1st and LAC 1st for Okafor

TP. I actually think that is a fair offer for both teams. Someone email this to Ainge.

There's no way the Sixers would accept that.

Lol okay dude. What choice does philly have. No team has even been interested and they have 3 centers. They have no leverage. But let's throw logic out the window and pay more than we need to. Thank god you guys aren't the gm.

He never said he would pay more, just that it would take more for Philly to do it.  Thinking that it's too much for the Celtics and not enough for Philly aren't mutually exclusive

Overreaction on my part. But I don't think the celtics will offer any Brooklyn pick for him imo.

I could see the 2018 BRK first being included, but not the 2017 swap

I would consider the 2018 pick for Okafor.  I would want to keep Crowder though as we will need him and Horford defensively

If the contracts are guaranteed, that means we will signing a max contract - correct?

Yes, but that would be impolitic of Ainge, and won't happen unless LeBron says he'll join the Celtics.

Then you have the contrasting reports that Butler & Rondo are recruiting Wade right now.  Doesn't seem much the actions of a guy who is getting to be traded.

If we really want Okafor, we should wait him out until the trade deadline, or sometime mid-season. His value should only decrease, seeing as how his minutes will deplete from sharing the floor with Embiid/Noel/Simmons. There's just not enough minutes to keep him at his stats, IMO. Then we offer Philly something like Rozier and a future Celtics 1st or two.

Can't possibly trade Brooklyn picks now. I would trade ONE BKN pick (and smaller parts)  for Jimmy Butler, but IMO, if either team wanted #3, they should have lowered their asking prices. A Jahlil Okafor for one year is not worth more than the potential of who we will pick (as a virtual lock) at #1-5. This upcoming draft is full of superior talent to anything Okafor will be.

Ange did great holding the line this off season. He recognized that he was in the position of power with his respective trade partners (Bulls and Sixers), as the Celtics are a far more developed and competitive team. Chicago and Philly are in earlier stages of putting together a quality brand, and at this point, I'd give Philly the upper hand to do something special.

I think once Chicago realizes that their best bet is to tank as hard as they can, and go for a top 5 pick, they will warm up to the idea of trading Butler for a BKN pick, to then start a proper rebuild with two top 5 picks.

Still sounding very much like the Celtics plan to guarantee Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko for next season.
