Devin Booker sounding very confident in post game interview. He scored 28 of the Suns 86 points.

I love Booker.

He's in the mold of Klay Thompson. I love him too.

Yeah, I think he can be even better than Thompson. His handle and ability to score inside is much better than Thompson's, who is mainly a shooter.
better than Klay?  Id be shocked.

I think he's a lot more offensively versatile than Klay, while still being a similarly-skilled shooter. Where Klay is more of a pure shooter, I think Booker is an actual scorer, who also has the potential to be an elite shoter.

The only concerning thing with Booker is that as his usage rate rose last year, his 3P% plummeted.

Well, I'm not sure how much you watched them at the end of last year, but I think a lot of us did due to the draft implications with Brooklyn. If so, you realize that he was basically full-on "Kobeing" the last part of the season lol I remember watching the last several games that he played, and it seemed like he literally had the ball in his hands 75% of the time. I know his turnover rate seemed much higher toward the end of the season due to playing such a primary role in the offense, but I would imagine that that played some sort of role in his 3P%, too.

Hey, jpotter33, I just saw Booker's highlights from today's game, and, granted, it's only summer league, but I didn't know that he could score in the post, so I stand corrected.  In fairness, though, I never watch Suns' games, lol ;D.

Yeah, and it's not even as much post-work as it is penetration and scoring inside. I'd like to see what percentage of Klay's points are from the outside now. I'm guessing it's pretty high.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
So far this Summer My Favorite C's Rookies are:

NADER....this guy can play--super coordinated, can dribble, shoot and finish.
YABUSULE...Does lots of good thing out there, sets good screens, shoots better than advertised.

I know it's only been like 1-1/2 games, but I'm feeling Sick to my stomach watching Jaylen Brown play---Huge WHIFFF by Ainge.? You had the THIRD Freaking Pick. Trade it, or Pick the best player --you did Neither.
I remember Mannix saying, that this guy was NOT good at Basketball. Hoping things change---cause Danny and Brad are supposed to be Smart guys....What on earth did they see in him ? He plays Chess-? uggh.

The dude is 19 and was clearly hindered by his bone bruise. I don't know why people see a smart, aggressive, explosive player who has proven he can shoot (in practice) and think that he is already a bust. Enjoy the ride - we get to compete while we develop top level prospects. This is an extremely unusual position to be in for any team.

Brown may not be a superstar, but I highly doubt he is going to be a dud. He has already proven he can get to the rim and play solid defense. That's a great start.

Man...Dragan Bender looks absolutely terrible.

The guy looks completely lost and uncoordinated out there, and he moves like a robot - no fluidity in his game at all.

His lower body looks like it's made of matchsticks.

The fact that he was outplayed by Noah Vonleh (who has not been able to crack an NBA rotation in two years) seems pretty fitting, since I predict similar levels of success from Bender.  Thank god we did not take him at #3 - I'd take Brown over Bender any day.  At least Brown LOOKS like a man.

Yabusule is my favorite rookie so far and I didn't know anything about him when he was picked.

Brown's first game showed that he has potential.  Brown's second game showed that he is not ready yet.  Now its Up to Stevens to get him to where he needs to be.  Whoever we took at 3 was going to need time to develop.  I think they picked based on the biggest upside.  To me it was Bender, then Brown, then Murray.  To Danny it was Brown, then Bender and Dunn, and my guess is it was Bender over Dunn.

Yes, his USG% skyrocketed to 27% in March and April, which is an immense load for a 19 year-old rookie to carry, but for the last month and a half of the season, he shot about 29% from three. That's pretty pitiful, especially for a guy regarded as a shooter. This is the very reason why I agree with you that he's much more of a scorer than a shooter. His stroke is super smooth, but his performance as a rookie gives me some pause, some doubt that he'll ever be an elite shooter. I wholeheartedly believe he'll be a great scorer, but if he can't maintain his shooting as his USG% increases, I doubt he'll ever achieve the status of an elite shooter. Regardless of what exactly he becomes, he'll be a fun player, one that I look forward to watching.

I was definitely Dunn over Bender.  There were reports that came out before the draft that confirmed Boston were NOT considering Bender with the pick.

Yet Danny admitted the pick was a hard decision, and they were still going back and forth trying to decide until the moment they were on the board.

It would have been Brown, then Dunn.

I'd like to see the breakdown of contested vs. uncontested shots during the year, too. Along with his higher usage rate, he also took a higher focus from the defense and had some questionable shot selection at times.

Simmons nearly had a triple-double.  Russell is great, tho.  Future star right there.  I'd glady trade any one of our young prospects for him.

He was 6/18 before hitting his final two shots, and Ingram missed his first 8, lol.  I know that Russell has NBA experience and that it's only one summer league game, but both of them were shockingly bad.  For whom would you trade Russell, btw?  Brown?  Smart?  Rozier?  Maybe we should just give the Lakers James Young and call it a day.  We don't even have to get anything back, lol ;D.

Frankly, I'm getting depressed watching some these other teams trot out their bright young stars, but it hit me hard last night watching LAL with Russell and Nance Jr. especially (Ingram to a less extent) and Philly with Simmons.  I still have faith in Jaylen Brown, but I need to settle back and be patient.
