Celtics was undefeated last year with Smart on the court. Dunn already had a loss in his first game. Granted, it doesn't tell the whole story.

For those who were desperate to get Dunn, this game is going to irk them.  But they should be reminded that Dunn will be turning 23 years old during his rookie season.  He spent several years playing College ball.   Don't compare him to Brown (a 19 year old a year removed from High School).  It's a waste of time.

Irrelevant, imo, and I have no idea why people hold the fact that Dunn chose to stay in school and get his degree against him .

With the experience Smart gained against the likes of Westbrook, Milsap, Klay, etc. Dunn would be no different. Smart shut down elite players in the league. What makes you think it will be different against a rookie who haven't even sniffed in the regular season?

Edit: found stats , and I stand corrected.  Smart shot 29% in his first summer league, and 35% last year, albeit the former being a much larger sample size due to injury, but still, that's not much of an improvement.  Welp .

Can we please recognize the entire reason we are having this conversation is that up till now Smart has been a bust?

Any half way decent guard would be forcing this conversation at this point because Smart has simply not lived up to expectations.  He needs to come back with an offensive game about 300% better than he was last year to make this conversation go away.

Summer-League is Summer-League, but you can at least compare players who played on that same level.

2014 Smart - 14.8 points, 4.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 2 steals, 0.4 blocks - 29%/26%/83% - 5 games - 29.2mpg

2015 Smart - 16 points, 4.2 assists, 3 rebounds, 2.4 steals,0.4 blocks - 35%/28%/84% in 24.9mpg

2015 Rozier - 12.3 points, 3.9 assists, 3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 0.1 blocks - 35%/40%/83% in 27.8mpg

2016 Rozier (so far) - 19 points, 5 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 1 steal, 0.3 blocks, 46%/33%/82% - 29.1mpg

Rozer's been better.  But it should be noted that Smart was pretty bad in both his attempts at Summer league.

Russell is the real deal, anyone who says otherwise is either hating on him because he's a laker or still has the phone controversy in mind. Clarkson (who isn't playing summer league) is a scorer, LA found themselves a steal with him (taken 46th in 2014). Ingram we all wanted. He is looking pretty good so far tonight. We know he's gonna be good. Randle is a double double guy. Nance tonight has impressed me. He's added a J and can rebound well. Zubac is a legit NBA big, he's a project but he also looks like he could pan out. For most of their guys, however, defense is the concern. But, they've brought in Walton, who could help in that regard, while also bringing his Warriors style play to LA.

Now, I know a lot of this because I live in So Cal. It's tough to talk to friends without hearing about the Lakers here. Their situation is pretty good, and they deserve credit. If their guys pan out (this is the biggest thing) they could be really good in 4-5 years: right as the Warriors and the cavs and the Spurs are falling off. Basically, they've timed their rebuild pretty well, and could very well be in contention by the time the current contenders fall off.

Their rebuild looks like a lot of rebuilds of other teams with high lottery picks, a lot of potential but no way to know if the pieces will come together.  For being #2 picks, Russell and Ingram are far from sure things.   Not sure I see the upside in the other guys on that roster either.

After watching, it wouldn't surprise me if Ingram ends up better than Simmons, especially offensively. I think Simmons won't be as much of a scorer due to being so involved in facilitating. When I've watched his summer league games, he didn't even really look to score that much.

What is encouraging is that Brown by far seems to be the most athletic out of the bunch and can easily get to the rim.

I don't know, maybe I'm just overrating them since I hear about them so much. Most of my friends are Lakers fans, so naturally all I hear about is about their "young core", as they like to call it. And that I see them on TV with more frequency. I try not to be biased but they might have something there.

Yeah that's how I've felt about Simmons for some time now too. He just doesn't want to score. He wants to pass, which is fine, but it's not always the best thing for the offense at the time. Ingram can score and he's showing it tonight. He and Russell could be great in 5 years.

That is encouraging about Jaylen. He gets to the rim easily, but when he gets back from injury I want to see him get some And1s. It's one thing to get fouled a lot. But when you can convert at the rim while being fouled, that's really another thing. These guys like Russell, Ingram, Clarkson, they can score at the rim. We don't really have someone like that except Isaiah and now Al. Scoring at the rim was Marcus's selling point, but we haven't seen it due to the fact that he hasn't been on ball a lot. I hope Jaylen and Marcus both bring us that finishing at the rim ability this year.
