Do you guys think Durant is on the phone right now trying to make the decision and who you think he's talking to ?

Or, is he playing NBA 2K17 with him on each team simulating stats n win totals to decide ?

Lol, hope he chooses Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas and he's got to consider that in a few years Jaylen Brown will be beastmode

Hopefully :).

Using my psychic mind powers I think Durant has made his decision.   He will let us know tomorrow.

OKC has subtracted their third-best player, Ibaka. The backcourt defense might be special, but it'll be a significantly different team than last year, and not necessarily better or even as good. He's gotten as far with them as he'll get. If he was going to win as a Thunder (is that the singular, "a Thunder"?) it would've been after going up 3-1 on the best regular season team ever. That kind of choke should sour him on the Thunder. It's one thing to be a diehard etermally optimistic lifelong fan loyal to one team forever. Players have about a decade to win something, maybe a decade and a half if they're lucky. If I were a Thunder fan, I'd never stop loving the Thunder. If I were Durant, I'd leave. It's time. Tick tock. Ding dong. Bye.

Golden State has subtracted Barnes, and to sign Durant will have to lose a 2-3 others, too, right? Will they have to trade Bogut first, or nah? Anyway, it'll be a different team, with substantial losses that partially offset the major gain.

We will have subtracted...Evan Turner. And added...Al Horford. Not to mention Jaylen Brown. We will be a better team than we were last year. We lost nothing. We added one 3rd overall pick who's 30 now and coming off his fourth All Star season, and we added another 3rd overall pick who's 19 but NBA-ready, super-intelligent, and super-athletic.

Seems like Bulpett was the first to insist the decision would be tomorrow when others were sticking to the general 24-36 hour original timeline or expecting an announcement tonight.

Does it mean anything that a Boston guy had the more specific timing right first?

This is what I was thinking. Bulpett was the first to say it's tomorrow and it's not based off money? Then Blakely tweet out that Ainge is at the summer league, got off the plan with a grin on his face?

Honestly, "it's not about money" is best news for teams other than the Celtics, who have max cap space.  The Heat don't, for instance.  The Warriors can, but have to jump through a lot of hoops to get there.

I'd say it's best news for teams other than the Thunder, since they can pay Durant the most.

That was my interpretation, too. Not that he was going to take a first year pay-cut.

I was having a little fun being a negative Nancy.  What it really means is that he's more likely to sign a multi-year deal.  If it were about he money, he'd hit free agency again next season.

Still don't see the appeal of a long-term deal wherever he goes. If teams are willing, which they are, it doesn't make sense to A) not keep options open, and B) not make more money in the process. The 1 + 1 doesn't necessarily mean that he still wants to do this thing again next summer. Rather, it's just a business move.

It depends on the team.  If he signs a 4-year deal in Boston, we could still have some cap room next summer to continue improving the team, either by free agency or even by taking on long-term salary this season.  If he hits free agency next summer, the Celtics could create enough cap room to sign him, but that would be it as far as moves go.

Same would be true with Golden State.  Iggy could be extended this summer potentially, and they could wind up with $20 million in cap space, giving them the opportunity to either add another large contract, or rebuild their bench with a few more bargain deals.  If KD hits free agency again, they'd lose about $11 million of that cap space.

Ah, I guess there is that aspect of it, which makes sense. Though I still think it was mainly referring to not necessarily going to OKC just because of the money.

But if it was meant to signal that he's open to a multi-year deal, doesn't that help us the most, since we'll have the most cap space next year without any major re-signings we would have to do (like Curry or Aldridge)?

I think it helps Golden State the most.  It sort of depends on what Iggy wants to take in terms of money, and their plans for Livingston.  But if they want to bring them all back at salaries higher than their cap holds, they would not have the cap space to give KD a max offer.  So that's a problem, and means that having to keep room for KD next year could cost them one of their few remaining rotation players.   But they're also close to that number, so if Iggy took less and/or they move on from Livingston, KD on a multi-year deal could create actual cap space for them next summer.

It's a little confusing because we might even have a new CBA next year which could change he cap number significantly, or could change the max salary rules.  But I think overall, Gooden State would suffer the most having to create max space for Durant in consecutive years.  Boston would benefit because they could take advantage of trade opportunities, maybe extend KO without letting him hit free agency (which seems wise given the past three days of contracts), or save the space for an addition next summer.  But while KD taking more than one year gives Boston flexibility, it allows the Warriors to maintain their roster, or add a piece depending on what Iggy does.  In other words, Golden State could swing from a hardship (losing a player) to a positive (gaining a player), whereas Boston would only be able to gain a player.

EDIT: I had a screaming infant interrupt me about three times during this response. It's accordingly a little convoluted. I would not deserve a good grade in your class.  But in conclusion, a multi-year deal would be good for Boston, but best for Golden State.  (Or, arguably, best for OKC, since Durant might leave after a one year deal there, unlike other teams.)  Spurs would probably benefit the least.

When have these Player's Tribune type of announcements like this been made in the past? Early morning? Mid-morning? Noonish?

I'm guessing it'll happen by the time I wake up, so that's probably going to dictate how my day goes tomorrow lol

How do you pass up being hometown buddies with Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback in NFL history, while being the biggest basketball superstar in Boston since Larry Bird? How do you pass up the opportunity to surpass Bird and Russell as the greatest Celtic of all-time, and catapult yourself into the conversation of GOAT? How do you pass up joining a team with all-star Horford, all-star Thomas, first-team all-defensive guard Bradley, and the third overall pick in the 2016 draft? How do you pass up the opportunity to win an NBA-record 18th world championship with world-renowned basketball coach Brad Stevens?

Just do it, KD. Just do it.

Just heard Broussard on ESPN say that the Jerry West conversation was originally scheduled for Friday, but they couldn't pull it off, so he agreed to chat Saturday.  I originally took the West call to think that Durant had kind of made up his mind and was checking back with GSW today.

Hearing what Broussard said tells me:

a) GSW didn't have their ducks in a row enough to have West connect on the day their pitch was scheduled
b) Durant probably agreed to hear from West at that meeting.

E.g. I don't take it to mean anything more then it was just a part of the original pitch.  Doesn't, in itself, signify he's learning towards the Warriors.

Oh crap.  Jerry West and Pat Riley? :o We're doomed, lol ;D.

What exactly is Jerry West going to tell him? Don't go to Boston because they beat the crap out of his Laker teams back in the day?

Come on .... Boston is a stone's throw from your home KD, and Boston is NBA Royalty. You become an instant mover and shaker. Your media power increases ten-fold. Nike wants you in Boston.

Bill Russell should be on three-way with Kevin Garnett talking KD up telling him he will win 10 titles in Boston and KG telling him anything is possible

We are a winning city for a reason. OKC is a good team but has also capped themself out and overpaid players

Comparing us to OKC.  We have Horford.  OKC just traded Ibaka.  They have Steven Adams.  Advantage us. Zizic could be the player Adams is someday.  He is not the same skill level of a guy  like Horford.  We were able to add a player like Horford because of our management vs losing a guy like Ibaka like OKC has done.

We have Isaiah they have Westbrook - This is debateable imo.  On paper Westbrook is better but Isaiah does a lot of the same without the ballhogging. He is also signed long term and for less money which will allow us to pay other players.

We have Bradley they have Roberson - Roberson played well at times for OKC. Bradley got hurt.  Durant was yelling at Roberson to shoot the ball in the conference finals.  Bradley wouldn't do this.  Advantage us

They just traded for Oladipo and Sabonis.  They have a bunch of pretty mediocre guys in Waiters, Morrow  who really did nothing for them in the playoffs. Adding Oladipo is just going to make those guys even more irrelevant.  Plus Oladipo is pretty overrated.  And Kanter.  They are also pretty strapped to make moves to improve due to their over payment of these guys.

We have Smart, Jaylen, KO, Crowder and an assortment of draft picks plus guys like Amir and Jerebko who are solid contributing veterans. Talented players on rookie deals and affordable vets plus picks to make moves.  Advantage us

The way our team has been managed is much more conducive to winning a championship with a player like Durant.

We have Brad Stevens locked up long term, they have Donovan.  Advantage us again.

We have better management. Better coaching.  Better ownership.

I think my biggest fear about landing Durant is his impact on team chemistry.  The locker room may fracture when Jaylen Brown starts to surpass him.
