All of this really doesn't reflect well on the Hawks though.

If they trade Milsap and manage to keep Horford, they've p---ed him off by dragging their heels.

If they lose Horford and keep Milsap, they've p---ed them off by trying to trade him.

What are they even doing?

This sounds like they are legit scared of KD joining forces with Horford and are trying to do all they can to stop it. It doesnt even make any sense signing Dwight and Horford and shopping their best player in last years playoffs?

It's a negotiation tactic. Mike Conley just did with the Mavericks and so did Whiteside.

The thing that sucks now is they'll be able to trade Milsap and probably get a good package in return.

And if we can use Horford to get Durant, it's to our advantage as well.
So it's a win-win no matter what happens.

Nets might not get as bad a pick in a deep draft next year as people originally thought. Celts falling behind in the east pecking order. That pick swap for Brooklyn will still likely hurt but not as bad as expected.
