If I'm the Bulls, I trade Jimmy Butler. I don't think his value increases on a team in flux next year and they're not building a contender for the foreseeable future. If they like Dunn as reported, the deal with the Celtics just makes sense.

I think the opposite.  You just handed the keys to Butler.  It's his team now.

Of course, with that front office, nothing would surprise me.

Knicks to sign Dwight Howard to replace Robin Lopez ?

PG: D-Rose
SG: ?
SF: Melo
PF: Porzingis
 C: D-Howard

Looks a good fit to me. For both team and player. It would be great to see Dwight play in a real basketball town like NYC.

Oh, please let this happen. I can already see the disappointed faces of all the Knicks fans when that team loses in the 2nd round.

You're a cockeyed optimist. I don't think that roster even makes the playoffs.

Howard is likely to be on the "worst contracts in the NBA" list in about two years. Rose already is. :)

Haha.

That's exactly what I thought
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Butler is going to have nothing to work with.....

Does #3 to Chicago make more sense now???

Yes but they're gonna want a sg other than grant.  Maybe throw in Bradley or we give em Bradley rozier and smart for butler and keep the #3 and take jaylen brown.

The Bulls are trading Rose to the Knicks for Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant and bigger package, sources tell @The Vertical

Are the Bulls compensating for something?

I wonder if Chicago will go after Rajon Rondo now.

Rondo, B.Jennings or D.Williams as next best FA PGs after Mike Conley. Or Ty Lawson. Although he was awful last year. Hard to trust Ty Lawson after that. Or maybe go after all the money and excitement. that Jeremy Lin can bring in.

I'd like to see Brandon Jennings get another chance somewhere. Chicago is a good fit for him. They will need some scoring there now that D-Rose is gone. Someone who can help J.Butler with the scoring load.

This is such a Knicks move.

Addressing a position of need and clearing cap space.

Rose/Melo/Porzingis, plus $35-$40 mil in cap space this offseason.

You post that like Rose is actually an asset.

He's better than Calderon.

Itd be classic Knicks tho.

So many big names on that roster. I see them as a 4-6 seed. Perhaps better or worse depending on what happens with the rest of the east.

It's not 2012. It's 2016. The big names don't mean anything when:

- Rose has been at or below a replacement level player the last three years.
- 'Melo is 32. It's all downhill for him.
- Howard has chronic back issues and guys like him tend to fall off a cliff when they hit 30.

We can try to resign KG, Allen and Pierce too but I don't think that's going to help win the ECF in 2016-2017.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I don't get this reasoning though. Sure, there was tension between Rose and Butler. But it's not as if that's what has been holding the team back. They don't have the talent anymore. Rose was done, Gasol was one dimensional, Noah dismissed and now they are all gone. Mirotic got a little exposed. It's basically just Butler now and he's not good enough to carry the team or attract other stars by himself. His value is high right now though. They risk it lowering if the team struggles more than expected. If the team overachieves, they are still treadmill.

Maybe. But that's like choosing between two different flavors of a s**t sandwich.

Wasn't the reported rift in the Bulls' locker room between Noah and Butler? If this is Butler's team now, they'll have to trade Noah next, which means there's noone left to play with Butler.

At that point, wouldn't it be easier (and smarter) to just start over from scratch?

Indeed.

So are Bob Cousy and Tiny Archibald, at this point.

This would make sense for me too. Giving second opportunities to ex-stars with problems is a risky strategy, but having Jackson helps reduce the risk.

Noah's a FA.  He's as good as gone already.

Can't you start from scratch with Butler? Or, at least, attempt to?

It's not like the Knicks have a ton of better, realistic options either. Rose will be off the books soon. Melo and Howard should be at least mediocre while Porzingis is developing.

Sure.  Maybe his value to the team is best as trade value right now.  However, you also have him under a very reasonable contract for the next few years.  A contract that will look even better under the new salary cap.  Allowing the team more flexabilty to go out and get other pieces.

Like I said before, with that front office, I could see it going in either direction.  But getting rid of Thibs, Noah, and now Rose, I think they're finally moving on from that past regime.
