This is such a Knicks move.

Addressing a position of need and clearing cap space.

Rose/Melo/Porzingis, plus $35-$40 mil in cap space this offseason.

Definitely feels like a cap space move more than anything else. Better send out some texts Melo!

Butler is staying put......
Why do you say that?

Trading an expiring declining player for future assets is exactly the sort of move a team rebuilding would do. I think they will keep Butler too but who the heck knows. All depends how much they value Dunn.

The noise about trading Butler was never about him or Rose, it was about whether they were comfortable building around Butler. Rose was always on the way out given how much he's declined.

Agreed. I think you have this pegged. The Bulls got nothing of significant value and traded nothing of significant value. I don't see this as a build move at all.

It smells more like the first move in a blow-up. Perhaps someone wants Butler worse than Ainge does.

Bulls has been heavily targeting point guards in the draft for months. Now we know why. Wanted Kris Dunn but couldn't get him. Wade Baldwin?

Trade for Butler possible!?!?

Good trade for Chicago. A solid starting center in Lopez and a good young guard in Jerian Grant.

Good return for a player who is a shadow of himself.

Bad trade for New York. D-Rose not even worth R.Lopez. Nevermind J.Grant as well.

Unfortunately for Chicago, they now have to pay the corpse of Jose Calderone $7.7 million next year
I'm bitter.

Knicks to sign Dwight Howard to replace Robin Lopez ?

PG: D-Rose
SG: ?
SF: Melo
PF: Porzingis
 C: D-Howard

Looks a good fit to me. For both team and player.

interesting, do you think Rose is ready to return to form? new start, with Melo and Howard could benefit being there too

Looks a good fit to me. For both team and player. It would be great to see Dwight play in a real basketball town like NYC.

Except chemistry-wise. I see a lot of volatile personalities there.

My head just went there too. Just find a low-usage 3 and D guy to soak up minutes at the 2.

I don't know if I would say addressing personally.  Not like it's the worst move but even including him as some kind of rock solid part of a team to build around is a STRETCH.

I think the Bulls now figure out a way to get a decent PG without giving up Butler.  Plenty of guys out there.  Weren't they enamored with Rozier?  What assets do they have that we would consider trading for Rozier? (assume Butler off the table).  Rozier for McDermott?

If butler is on the table, we pick Dunn and trade for butler.  Might be Bradley and #3 for Butler and maybe Lopez

TP - beat me to this. Seems like a good fit for both parties

Which is why I'd make sure they understand the Celtics are taking Dunn at 3. Absent an adequate trade offer, that is.

Don't recall that.  The other team that was apparently into Rozier as much as the Celtics was the Cavs.

The Bulls have a lot of holes on the perimeter. No PG. No wing to play alongside J.Butler.

PG: ?
SF: J.Butler
SF: ?
PF: Mirotic, T.Gibson
C: R.Lopez

Losing Pau Gasol + Joakim Noah. Getting rid of D-Rose is addition by subtraction.

I wonder who Chicago will go after. Mike Conley would be great for them. Not sure they can get Conley though. Chicago look far off from being a top tier side. This Chicago team looks hard pressed to make the playoffs next season. Had problems for years in getting a 2nd starter quality wing alongside Jimmy Butler. It's not like their bigs are anything to boast about either. Solid players (Lopez, Mirotic, Gibson) but nobody special (no All-Star talents). Jimmy Butler is being asked to carry an awful lot of weight on his shoulders.
