Speaking of Brown, How many good shooters have the Celtics taken in the first round of the draft over the past 10 years? I am struggling to find one. Sully doesn't count. Dare I say Green in 2007 who we traded for Ray Allen?
One day it would be nice for us to find an end of the game shooter who can actually help us win in crunch time. I am definitely not in the I hope the Celtics draft Brown category and he suddenly discovers how to shoot better.
He shot 65% from the FT last year and had a .43% FG percentage and to top it off, he was under 30% from 3..Oh Joy....Sure doesn't sound like pick 3 material..I would rather take a chance on someone with a bit more upside on the offensive end or at least someone who can put the ball in the basket. It took Avery years before he improved his shooting and many of us fans did not believe that day would ever come. Great to hear that Brown was so impressive in his first workout but we have a whole year of college to analyze on how he did.
As a freshman of similar age to Brown, Paul Pierce shot 42% from the field, 31% from 3pt and 61% from FT.
He averaged 12 pts, 5 reb and 2 ast in 25mpg.
Brown averaged 15pts, 5 reb and 3 ast in 28mpg. Slightly lower blocks and steals than Pierce.
Not saying Brown will be Pierce, but the improvement is in the realm of possibility given how young Brown is. And Pierce was one of the better end-of-game shooters in the league at his peak, as we all know.
