Several teams with significant cap space this summer — the Celtics, Lakers, Suns, Mavericks among them — have the intention of pursuing Barnes, especially as a fallback option for Durant. Barnes is expected to receive and offer of at least $20 million per year or perhaps as much as a max offer starting at about $23 million.

Seems like speculation. I'd be surprised if Danny paid Barnes $20 million when he already has Crowder for ~$7m.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

GS can match any offer sheet for Barnes though, and they already said they would. They made it clear they want to keep this team together as is.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Teams are intent on flushing Barnes pockets with money, because they believe he could step up into the 2nd/3rd role, but I'm not too sure about that. I think Barnes will have an impressive steady career, but I think ultimately, he's going to be relegated to the small ball 4, and his inconsistencies at offense/defense won't be such a red flag at the 3.

I saw that Barnes has been a consistent contributor in the Finals, and the playoffs. But another concerning thing that I've witnessed personally from the eye test, is Barnes inability to pass out of tough double teams, and making the right play at the right time. I think its also steadfast become another issue is Barnes weak ball handling, passing, and overall basketball IQ. He's so athletic, and so young, you just have to give him a lengthy and wealthy contract in hopes of aspirations of his ceiling reached, but its a very tough and vague road that you're going to be taking, if desperate teams even offer anywhere near 20-23 million.

How hard is it for NBA reporters to learn the maximum salary rules??? Barnes max would be around $21.6 million unless the cap jumps more than forecast, not $23 million.

I don't believe that have already said they would match anything.  Doing so would open a labor grievance.  The NBA pretty sternly told teams to stop doing that last year.

He's been the 4th or 5th banana on that team for a couple of years now. He's not a bad player but I don't think he's the type of player based off the money is asking. I'd sTay away from him.

There have already been media reports that they would match any offer, and that they want to do whatever needed to bring the current lineup back. There is no rule against them suggesting any of those points.

It's really hard for me to see him justifying that $21M contract, even with an expanded role on a team like the C's. Fortunately, I don't see GS letting him leave if/when they repeat.

If Harrison Barnes had max level talent, he would be the player along with Curry that would be the splash brother, not Klay Thompson. He is Jeff Green. Stay away from giving that man a max contract. You will live to regret it.

The only way I see the Celtics going after Barnes is if they move Crowder in a trade. I don't think you can start both, Barnes isn't good enough to start over Crowder, and Barnes isn't signing here to come off the bench.

I don't really trust Deveny to know what's going to happen in free agency before it happens.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't see him as even Jeff Green.  would avoid him as a FA.

It would be super interesting to see what Barnes would do with a greater role on a different team.  His shooting percentages are solid.  I get the Jeff Green comps... but on the optimistic side you'd expect him to have a James Harden-esque surge with a greater role.

I agree he would show more signs of a supressed game IE have his " big moments" even in his current role if he had the talent to warrant being a 2nd option.  I say save the cap space for after the other teams blow it in mediocre talent.
