Rumor - Nerlens Noel-Jeff Teague trade being talked about

I get it and I dont. Teague can just walk away from Philly after next season.

Is Noel a restricted FA after next season?

A really good PG goes a long way for a fledgling team.  If Teague goes to the sixers, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see him back in the All-Star game.  If the Sixers have to pay Teague after next year (because he's first tier) is that a bad thing?

But would Teague stay in Philly? I guess money talks but they are still a while away from making any sort of noise.

Not sure how I feel about this trade, but I do know a couple things:

1) People LOVE to overvalue our assets
2) People love to undervalue assets around the league.

I think I remember Zach Lowe talking about this at the trade deadline. He grouped Celtics fans as 'crazy' for thinking we could get Blake Griffin without giving up real assets.

Oddly, there is another section of the fan base that grossly undervalues our assets.  Smart, Bradley and multiple firsts for Noel?!  I think we just have to acknowledge that internet blogs cater to all fans, including up-and-coming elementary school Celtic fans.

I don't know much about Teague as a person, but I do know he's one hell of a PG.  Maybe he likes being a big fish in a small pond.  Maybe not.  I don't know.  The situation with Schroeder has not brought out the best in him, but he's not a worse player than he was 2 years ago.

So, if this would happen that would have to mean they're moving away from offering big money for Horford this offseason right? Noel AND Splitter would take up all of the center minutes, and Milsap is a PF that can't play the three full-time. I'm guessing that would mean that they are moving on from Horford. Good deal.

Even if we only landed Horford and traded for Butler this offseason, those are pretty significant upgrades to the roster. If the trade was something like Bradley, Rozier, JJ, and number 3 for Butler, that'd leave the following roster:

PG: IT, Smart
SG: Butler, Hunter
SF: Crowder, Turner
PF: Amir, Mickey
C: Horford, KO

That's the second best team in the East even without other additions.

Though if they're looking for more veteran talent to mix in with their youth, I'd try and see if we could land the number one pick with some mix of IT, Crowder, Bradley, and the number three pick. I've been saying that we might be able to get Simmons from them if they're looking for more cost-controlled, veteran talent to surround their young guys with. I wonder if IT, Crowder, and number three and 16 picks could land us Okafor/Noel and the number one overall pick, especially if they're high on someone like Dunn or Hield at three to put in between IT and Crowder. This might especially work given their already current logjam at the 4 and 5 positions.

i'll be bummed if Boston doesn't somehow land noel or okafor this Summer.  Those kind of prospects aren't made availalbe often.  But if the price for landing a guy like Noel is a 1-time allstar in his 20s, I can understand not making the move.  As much as I love Noel, I don't think I could bring myself to trade Isaiah Thomas for him.

If this is real, it goes to show how low Noel's value is. #3 for Noel would be way too much. Smart for Noel would be way too much. Thomas for Noel would be way too much.

These valuations help correct our forum a bit. There have been some ridiculous over-offers on this forum.

Noel is not even worth a starter in the NBA. The Sixers also have to throw in Covington (on a great deal and a perfect 3 and D developing talent - imagine Covington on the Thunder) and Stauskus (Stauskas? Stauskas?) just to make the Hawks get it.

I personally think Philly leaked this to put pressure on DA or some other GM they want to do a deal with. They may end up doing this deal if someone does not step up soonish. I think Philly would prefers to keep Noels and build around him then Okafor. I could be wrong but I think this is smoke.

It's mostly the contract being up. If they could lock Teague up on his current contract it makes more sense but to trade Noel and additional assets for a year of Teague doesn't seem like a great move.
