Who do you want at #16?

The answer to this question is whoever slips. Valentine, Poeltl, Chriss, Skal, Davis and Ellenson should all be gone, but if any of them are there at 16 we should pick them.

If none of those guys slip I like Taurean Prince because he can play the 3 and the 4 and other than Crowder we have no one on the team that can play both positions. He probably tops out as a 3 and d guy but at #16 that's fine. Luwawu, Baldwin and Sabonis would all be acceptable picks too.

My hope is they trade up to grab one of the guys I listed in the first paragraph.

Maker, for sure. I love his attitude, athleticism, length, and skill set. He is going to will his way into being a very effective player. Maker doesn't suck.

At this point I do think Maker is a 1st round prospect, and he'd be a defensible selection at #22. Guys with his physical gifts often just need time to figure it out. But right now, Maker is very bad at basketball, so I can't get too excited about him at #16.

this is why it'd be wise to wait until the second round to grab him.  Maybe someone like Cle or GSW considers him as an acceptable person to give a guaranteed deal to with the time to wait for him to pan out but I think the C's would do well to gamble that he's there at 31.   Consider the heat James Young is taking for not developing in 2 years regardless of his age.  Maker could very well have a similar story line 2 years out.  would rather not commit guaranteed money to that type of player.

Maker can hit the mid-range jump shot and run the floor well. He also said this:

I see myself more like KG on the blocks, but also being able to be used in multiple perimeter based actions. I see myself quarterbacking our defense and being a mismatch on offense.

For me, I also have to be talking about making a run at an NBA championship or going deep into the playoffs. I still remember the feeling of winning the 8th grade AAU Nationals with DunkDog, winning the State Championship with Carlisle high school, and winning the OSBA Canadian Championship with AI Prep. Those were better than all the MVPs, rankings, or awards I've won. 3-5 years of doing what you love? How can't you be great.

I realize that words don't mean much, but you have to love his attitude. This guy will make an impact in the NBA; whether or not it is a huge impact remains to be seen, but you can't necessarily expect the world from #16.

If I was asked the same thing coming out of college I would have said I'm like Larry Bird except shorter and lacking a left-handed shot.  so, yeah, words don't mean much but a positive attitude is a good one to have.

I don't think many teenagers or college players answer those questions that maturely. I remember there was an interview the Bulls did when they were deciding between Rose and Beasley...I forgot about the question but essentially the two answers were very different in terms of maturity.

When Whiteside was asked what he needed to work on he said "Nothing."  That's pretty funny.

I agree and I think the Olynyk pick shows a similar thinking for Ainge in the past. 

I also quite like guys mentioned like Chriss, Valentine, Skal.  Maybe they are a bit below the second tier guys, but in ways I ask why they are and of course we don't really need any more guards.  I would love to trade up for Chriss based on his potential if he goes around 10 or so.

And can't forget Ainge almost did a crazy overpay trade up last draft that was foolishly turned down.  So he will be willing to trade up in the draft for sure.

Everyone is focused on the #3 slot, but I'm really excited about that Mavs pick too. Here's my ranking of viable 16th picks; it is likely that at least one of these guys (especially Zizic) will be available.

1. Furkan Korkmaz. Korkmaz is badly, badly underrated.  He's an elite shooter with no significant weaknesses on offense. He can shoot efficiently off the bounce and on the move (2014-2016: 72/168 from 3 in 1114 minutes). He has ideal height for a SG (6'7), NBA athleticism, excellent feel for the game, and good enough ballhandling + playmaking that he could play some minutes at PG in the future.

2. Ante Zizic. Zizic has been one of the most productive players in the Adriatic League, despite being just 19 years old. He has been a prolific and extremely efficient scorer, and he has also dominated the boards and collected a solid block rate. His production compares favorably with Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic, who have both managed to translate Adriatic league production into NBA success.

3. Deyonta Davis. While Davis probably won't last this long, he would be an awesome pick if he does. He's essentially a 6'10 version of Jordan Mickey.

4. Denzel Valentine. I actually like Valentine more than fellow senior Hield, as Valentine has elite feel for the game to go along with his outstanding shooting. This is demonstrated by Valentine's staggering 45.8AST% compared with only a 14.8TOV% (Hield: 12.7%, 14.0%).

these are all good choices at #16.

i suspect that zizic may be available at 23, so perhaps the celtics could go all international all the time and scoop up bender, korkmaz, and zizic. 

Tommy might have to retire if that happens

I mostly agree, but the international class is deep enough that I do think we can stash a bunch of guys. Korkmaz, Zizic, Luwawu, Qi, Zubac, Zagorac, Cornelie, Hernangomez. All look like good prospects.

Maker will probably be there in the 2nd round. Most teams don't like gambling on guys who aren't good at basketball, even though they do sometimes learn.
