From a scouting perspective, Bender fits the European archetype almost perfectly. He spent of the night floating around the three-point line despite often being clearly the tallest player on court. His length resulted in two impressive blocks but he didn't do much rebounding.
Question: Bender the type of big man we want?
Answer : No
The kid clearly needs to bulk up , but he is the youngest player in the draft . He will take 2-3 years to develop , but could pay off big time in the long run . In the meantime we have plenty of cap space to fill our big man needs for now , with the cap going up even more next year.
This is the perfect situation to take the highest potential , especially at a position of need . We are already a 48 win team , with another lottery pick coming from Brk next year , very possibly another top 5 pick .
He has elite length for his position , and you can see the skill .
Bulking up is only one part to become a good rebounder.
Where is the "embracing contact" aspect with bender?
Diallo for example is 3 inches shorter and only about 10 pounds heavier. But he gets praise bc he isn't afraid to mix it up and go after it
This is the issue what worries me about bender more than a lack of strength
He is a pf. That is his future position.
From everything I have read/seen, he is more like a mirotic than a gasol . Gasol as soft as some label him, doesn't shy away from contact and battles
