What's wrong with preparing for the statistically most likely scenario and deciding to be OK with that outcome and be happy if things turn out better?

If the pick falls to four or five and the top two plus Murray are off the board, yeah.

Give me the elite shooter who will score and hit threes at the next level, even if he is never more than a great role player, as opposed to a raw might-be-nothings like Brown or Ellenson.

To be honest, I'd feel more comfortable with Hield than Bender.

actually, they don't. each lottery is a discreet event whose odds are independent from every other lottery.

You're entirely right.

But frankly - and I know it won't do me any good - I'm going to get a bit bent out of shape with the NBA if the Celtics get screwed once again in the lottery. At some point random chance stops becoming random and becomes a pattern. Now I'm not saying the lottery is fixed and what has happened to the Cs in the past is well within normal standard deviations. But at the same time it's starting to feel right or smell right.

In your example, what happens if a heads comes up 9 times in a row? You start to wonder about the coin since the odds are 1 in 512 (or .19%). Possible? Yes. Doubtful? You betcha.

I'm not going to make any claim as to where I think the Cs will fall in the lottery. There's no way anyone can predict something and then say "I called it" when it's entirely random chance (supposedly). But I've got a good feeling about this one.

I think this kind of "hate LA" stuff is shortsighted. The LAST thing I want is a team in our division having yet another top 3 pick. Yeah, LA is an attractive market where they can rebuild via FA at times. But I'd rather face a stacked LA team in the NBA finals than have to face one many more times per year plus having to run through them in the playoffs on the way to the finals!

Personally I'm pumped. The odds are against us but this is probably the best chance we'll have at drafting a franchise guy inside the top 3 for the next 10 years.

I'm a very sceptical person and don't generally believe in luck but I'm keeping the positive thoughts flowing about this lottery night. I really think we're getting a top 2 pick.

don't like any of the poll options.  my gut is telling me they end up in the top 2.  every other time they've been in the lottery I expected them to slide back but not this time.  hope I'm right (obviously)

would rather have LA keep the pick this year.  don't want to reward the Sixers for their disgracing the NBA.   As long as LA end ups at #3, they won't get a franchise player but someone may be just enough to keep them out of the worst 3 records but well out of the playoffs and they can convey the 8th or 9th pick next year
