Horford has always been a pretty overrated defender though. Atlanta in general is somewhat overrated defensively and can be exploited. jerebko is playing well because he is exploiting matchups. So is Amir.   They are able to use their speed against Atlanta's big men.  I don't think jerebko does the same against a team like Golden state.  He might.  He could end up being our draymond green these playoffs where he can exploit matchups. It's good to have different options is all I'm saying. It's why it's almost a good thing to not have star players there because we can just play matchups vs being stuck playing a guys like Horford and Millsap 40 mpg who cant guard anyone in situations.

Atlanta has always been overrated that way in general because their bigs are dominant but can also be exploited with smaller guys.

They lose in the playoffs every year because of that. Cleveland and teams like Golden state can go small and are more talented.

People are just mad at sully because this is a good opportunity to bash him when this was a  decision to do this.  He's not even playing really.  He gives us an option in different ways. I'm fine with him that way.  He could still come up big for us in the playoffs at some point.

Having Sully is good that way anyways.  I'd rather have that then being forced to play a guy like Horford 35 mpg while we lose.

It's Brad Stevens job to put these guys in position to contribute . Stevens himself said he thinks Sully is a good player and needs to find ways to get him involved.  That's how i more see it anyways.  Having Sully doesn't hurt us.

Stevens isn't out there saying Sully you suck get rid of him. He's smarter than that.

Yeah if we had a bunch more talented guys and could play matchups that would be even better but getting all that to work has it's issues as well.  I'm happy with this team as is and the guys we have right now.

Sully isn't really an energy player off the bench right now and that's too bad.  Glenn Davis was better that way but had a role.  Sully is still figuring his out.  He may never be that but using him in matchups may work.  He has had big games against teams like Golden State in the past and teams that are more up tempo oriented.

Honestly though what is the point of ****ing about Sully right now? What does that solve? He's not going to go anywhere right now.  This is the team we have so might as well make the most of it and see what happens.

Atlanta was somehow second in defensive rating this season, so they must be doing something right.

Oh I know.  They are going to make adjustments. Why I think people are a little quick to say the things they are.  Sully is a bad matchup so far.  jerebko, smart and guys like amir have been good. Atlanta has guys like sefolosha and mike scott and bazemore who come in but they are primarily a big team.  They also are missing Carroll from last  year.  They do have a tendency to get stuck going big when they don't want to though.  The playoffs are different where guys like Brad Stevens can outcoach them in ways if they have the right personnel.  It's why teams with good coaches do well in the playoffs as well.  It's not all about star players. I'm not saying the hawks are a poorly coached team either. But they have flaws that can be exploited that don't necessarily show up during the regular season.  The could still very well beat us. The series isn't over yet but teams are going to adjust and Stevens too.

It's why teams like SA can beat lebron though. Good coaching goes a long way just like good star players. It's a chess match in ways.

If jerebko plays like this all playoffs great, but I feel like we are going to need Sully at some point.  We could lose before that happens but I would guess that Sully is going to have some good moments at some point.

It is funny if you read this board people trash players one day then they are like whoops.  Teams make adjustments?  Brad is a good coach....  This board is full of one over emotional reaction after the other.  You never learn either.

The reason we are playing this way is because of Brad Stevens though. I guarantee he watched the hawks and found they were primarily a big team and decided to go small and it's just playing out this way because of that.

It has nothing to do with Amir is God and Sully sucks.  He's playing better right now because that's what the matchup is dictating.

Yes, he has.

I hope that he stays on a reasonable contract and that his contribution can be duplicated somehow when he is not on the court.

Whether it's internal (Mickey's development) or external (draft, trade, or FA)...another Amir-like rotation player would be really nice!

I call BS.  I think Amir has played better on D, and more efficient offensively the whole year regardless of the matchips.

Eh. Amir has (at least in my opinion) been playing pretty well for the past few months now.

Sully? Not so much. There are better shooting bigs out there, and also rebounders.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

12 mil is a lot to pay him each season, so don't be shocked if we renounce him.  Maybe we'd sign him to a long-term deal at more reasonable cash if we strike out on adding two max contract players.   He's been huge, though.  He does a decent job of filling one of our biggest needs.

I think Sully is playing hurt, or he has gained too much weight. He can barely get off the ground. The fact that he can't get an offensive rebound against a terrible rebounding team has to be evidence that he isn't 100%.

Amir is a better match up with right now against the Hawks, but he's also a better fit with how the C's would like to play. I'd rather them replace Sullinger with someone who fits an uptempo style (athlete rebounder/shot blocker or shooter).
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Amir has been far better in the playoff than Sully.  He has really stepped up match ups or not.  However, we will need Sully at different points during the playoffs especially for rebounding but right now he looks slow out there with the intensity and speed of playoff basketball.

He is doing nothing to make a case for a big pay day.........

Somebody with brains ......would be in shape and showing their strengths when all the GMs are watching to see who really has game.

Sully disappears.

I think this could be the case as well, possibly, but even healthy he has some flaws.  If so, the decline started after 3/20/16.   Right now his assets do not outweigh his liabilities.  Were this to be case, I think people would be more lenient.

If this is case, it is completely inexcusable.   The man is a professional athlete.   I have zero sympathy if this is the case.  Enough, is enough.  Stress fracture last year, 4 years of being overweight and out of shape.  Time for him to make like a baby and head out! COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL.   What happens to you and I if we can do our job?   We get fired.

Horford has won many matchups against him, but his poor has been through the month of April to present.  He never was a leaper but it is worse than usual.

I think it is somewhat amazing that Sully can still play as well as he can, given that he is now obese. If he were injured on top of that, and still more or less functional as an NBA player--though undoubtedly below his full potential--that would be astounding to me.

I definitely would love to see him back, but we'll have to see how much cap space we need. Assuming we don't need the space, it's a no-brainer to pick up his option since it's only for a year.
