More eye popping athletiscm starting at 28 seconds here. His left handed dunks are crazy, stupid, nasty. Also some great blocks here.

Watch the back to back dunks starting at 30 seconds here. The first one is like whoa..
https://youtu.be/_F-hDlD6TKo

I like.

Also, is it just me or are those some really short shorts lol.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

:- Another huge positive for Brown. I do see Paul Pierce potential in this area, his three point threat position while still having his dribble looks great, good fundamentals, pivots, jab steps, fakes.
Again if that jumper is reliable, imagine Pierce Isolations from the Elbow's with one of the best athletes in the world. He could be unstoppable on offense, he has way more offensive Upside than Stanley J, or Winslow. Defense is another story.

This is a comparison between Kawhi (at the time of the draft) and Brown courtesy of ESPN. A lot of similarities in terms of strengths, weaknesses, size, and length.

Leonard

6-7
228
Reach 8-10
Wingspan 7-3

Positives
Explosive leaper
Freakishly long arms
Good, developing body
Incredible motor
Excellent rebounder
Developing offensive player

Negatives
A bit of a tweener
Lacks great lateral quickness
Needs to improve perimeter game
Can disappear in games

Brown
6-7
221
Reach 8-9
Wingspan 7-1

Positives
Long, elite athlete with a NBA body
Has a power game
Impressive slasher, finisher at the rim
Lives at the free throw line
Excellent motor
Very good defender

Negatives
Needs to improve his jump shot
Needs to improve his handle

I think I'd take him at #4. Like others have said, he's a physical machine but he has struggled with a jump shot. The scouts all think his game will translate better in the NBA though. I guess it's easier to drive to the paint in the NBA with the 3 second rule in place and no zone defences

eh, didnt scouts feel that way towards smart?

Well we could derail this thread.... but suffice to say Smart's number 1 attribute was defence which has translated very well. And I'm in the camp that thinks he's coming along just fine at the moment.

I do think it's different when talking about a SF though. Brown would have the ball in his hands less and is likely to be making moves off of the catch as opposed to dribbling round screens etc. More of his movement will be off ball  so you could argue that for him

We need toughness down low and shooting. He provides neither. Not sure why you think he would be a great fit.

Aside from the obvious two in Simmons and Ingram, this is the guy I want the C's to take.  I've been on his bandwagon all year.  I was hoping for Aaron Gordon a couple years ago and Orlando derailed that.  "Supremely talented wing with physicality and a nose for the basket"  Sign me up.

It would make good sense to draft him as we are a bit thin at the SF position (We definitely saw that with Crowder injured this season). The thing about Jaylen, which makes me hesitant about drafting him, is his shooting. A bad FT and 3pt shooter, which isn't something that this team needs (look at our last game against Atlanta). But obviously, if he is the BPA then you have got to pick him.

Brown needs to be considered for the 3-5 pick

Kid has world class explosiveness for a sf plus skills

Feel for game could stand to improve but he is still young

I would take brown over bender no doubt

Not a shocker, but more good news for this year's draft class. Basically a lock for a top ten pick. Could be a great fit and a long term SF. Of course he can't shoot. Huge Upside though.

Much as I like him, I am getting really, really, really, really tired of saying "I think he has the potential to develop a jumpshot one day" about seemingly every single guy we bring to Boston.

We desperately need guys who can shoot - I don't think I can stomach bringing in another guy who can't shoot unless it's a guy who could has the transcendent talent (e.g. Simmons).

My first plan would be to go after Simmons or Ingram.  If we miss that, then I would much rather pick up a great scorer/shooter (e.g. Hield) and then resign Turner to backup Crowder...rather then waste a top 3 pick on another guy who can't shoot.

By all means I love guys like Brown...but it's just not what we need right now.  We need shooters and we need proper bigs, and Brown is neither of those two things.

TP.  I think either Brown or Dunn would come in as the worst (or close to the worst) perimeter shooter on this team.  With all of the good things both can do, they would effectively make our biggest weakness even weaker.

Having said that, I'm a believer in drafting BPA, so there comes a point where I would be okay with selecting Brown.  It just isn't in the top 5 for me.  Plus, I saw Cal play 4 or 5 times last year and I just wasn't impressed with him.  I really wanted to be, because an elite 3 would be a perfect fit for us.  In the games I saw he reminded me a bit of a younger LBJ, in that when he got the ball he went FULL SPEED the length of the court to attack the basket, daring the opponent to take a charge and get crushed in the process.  The difference was I rarely saw him finish with either a hoop or FTs.  It was almost always a miss or turnover in transition.

I went from being really excited to watch him to really disappointed in what I saw...maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't see him as being a high level NBA player.

I have no idea if Brown is good at basketball, but I do know that he's good at dunking.

I'm right there with you, which is why I'm terrified that he's going to look good in workouts and convince Ainge to draft him top 5.

My goodness, isn't that the truth.

This is a make-miss league, as they say, and the three pointer is more important than ever.

So can we stop acquiring guys with suspect jumpers and no clear NBA position and prioritize size and shooting for once?

Obviously, Ainge has had a lot of success building up this team by going for guys who are devalued because of their size, poor shooting, or both, but you can't build an entire team that way if you don't like getting curb stomped in the playoffs, where, surprise, size (at all positions, not talking about traditional big men here) and shooting matter a great deal.

I don't know much about him, but from what I do know he seems to fit this team's character as a tough, defensive-minded, athletic wing, though after the last several games I'm hesitant to add another non-shooter to this group.

Would Stanley Johnson be an ideal comparison for Brown?

He's a much better athlete than Johnson, but I think Stanley, despite being pretty raw himself, was much more polished than Brown. Brown is essentially a blank canvas. He has a body seemingly designed in a lab, crazy athleticism, good work ethic, and he's very intelligent, but he's not a good basketball player.

Hmm, interesting. We definitely need some more athleticism on the wing, because our wings have more football athleticism than basketball athleticism, specifically Smart and Crowder and even Bradley to an extent. However, we REALLY need shooting. After a brief look at his draft profile, it says that he can score by getting to the basket, but he's just not the shooter, though I'm guessing that was also Smart's draft profile, too.

He's a good slasher, but he doesn't really no when enough is enough and forces the issue a bit much. He's good at getting to the line, but is a disappointing free throw shooter. I watched a lot of Cal this year, because I found both Brown and Rabb intriguing, and Brown is one of those guys whose athleticism really stands out. I remember this one play (I think against Arizona) where he committed a bad turnover then ran after the fast break, came out of nowhere, flew through the air, and blocked the **** out of the ball. It showed off his great motor and unreal athleticism. Plays like that show you why Brown has a ton of upside if he ends up in the right situation, but he could wind up being profoundly disappointing as well.
