He still hasn't really had a major opportunity for extended minutes.   We've seen players under Ainge's tenure having a couple redshirt years only to develop into rotation players (Perk comes to mind), but we've also seen some mid-to-late 1sts develop into nothing.

I don't blame Young totally for the lack of minutes.  We have a lot of decent players getting minutes on this team.  All four of the prospects (Young, Rozier, Hunter, Mickey) were clearly going to spend the bulk of time in d-league this season.   But by year 2, you'd kind of expect Young to be getting a bit of time.  Perk only played 9 minutes per game for 60 games in his second year, so there's still some hope he'll follow that path and be ready for bench minutes next year, right?

Sure. Next season is the one where that will heavily impact by thinking on J.Young. This season is still too early.

The team has been somewhat fortunate with injuries this season, too.  Seems we haven't had any extended time with multiple guards down.   Not a ton of opportunities to force-feed minutes to a guy like Young.  It'll be interesting to see if we have any sweeping trades this Summer that free up an opportunity for some of the young guys... though the young guys might be involved in the sweeping trades.

If in two years James young was playing just 8 minutes per game and shooting 27% from the field, how would you feel? Because he'd be the same age as Rozier is now, and those are Rozier's numbers for this season. You know, the guy we've all been gushing about lately.

Point is: This sh** takes time.

Not really, I don't see him getting rotation minutes on this team anytime soon.

My "hope" is that he gets included in a trade this summer as a very minor sweetener and he becomes a project for a team with less depth / less urgency to win games.

I think could still be a pretty good NBA player, but Im starting to believe he needs a change of scenery.

That game where he scored 13 in a sudden spurt keeps me hopeful that he will show something in the future.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I'm usually pretty optimistic about guys like this, but at this point if he cracks the rotation before we trade/cut him I'll be surprised.

One thing in his favor is that we are thin at SF, and there isn't a ton of talent at that position in this draft.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I thought it was kinda funny RJ came in and scored 11 points last night, because it kinda Mirrored James Youngs game last year where he came into a blowout against Charlotte at home and hit some 3s.

Young scored 13 that night on 3-4 from three 5-7 from the field. Hunter was 2-3 from 3 and 4 of 6 from the field for 11 points. Had he made that last 3 the symmetry would have been great.

I would have liked to see what all of our rookies of the past 2 years would have looked like on Philly.

I also wonder what fab Melo would have done for them.

I think Smart would have put up great stats, but also would have gotten like arrested for beating the Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. out of sam hinkie or something like that.

the rest of them I have really no idea how they would have done, but Im certainly intrigued.

I do still have hope for Young but his time is coming. He still has youth on his side at 20 he is a year younger then Mickey and almost two years younger then Hunter and Rozier. If he makes it past a potential trade crazy summer next years summer league and camp will be huge for him. He has to start showing that he belongs in the league.

Looking back at recent Celtics history in 2006/07 Gerald Green was 21 averaged 22mpg and 10ppg on decent shooting %. I really don't see 22mpg being available to Young next season but he is going to have to reach a similar level of production in the minutes he can earn.

I hate to say it but ultimately my gut tells me that Young may end up going the path of Green and finding NBA success latter in his career and not in Cs green.

Another question to ask is if Young where a 20 year old Junior coming out from UK this year averaging around 18-20 ppg how high would he go in this draft? My guess is right around the #17 he was drafted.

As others have said, the case of Getald Green and youth are on his side. And while this team isn't a contender, as many have pointed out, this team has a ton of depth. So even if he was playing ok in practice, he wouldn't get a chance.

Even Avery Bradley needed an injury to Ray Allen to break in. And while that team was obviously way better than this one, this team probably has more depth.

So I'll say Young still has a shot, but it doesn't look good, particularly if we expect it to happen on this team.

I'll never understand how young players suddenly play nba levels.
I mean, who would have thought Booker will be that good so young.
On opposite thinking, I'm still waiting KO to be confident. And it frustrates me even more when I see he's doing fine regardless. Can you imagine KO super confident? wow
RJ doesn't look like his issues his confidence. Not sure what to make of him and his "not so good" season.
As for Young, I'm just waiting he grow more mature. I guess next season should be the make or break year for me.

Not really but he is only 20 still so who knows if he'll ever be decent. Either way I'm not mad Danny took him... It was the 17th pick !!! Can't expect anything from non-lottery selections
