He has one more year for C's but probably an additional year for another team to prove himself. I get the feeling Young doesn't feel comfortable with all the competition. He could end up being pretty good in 3 years on a euro team against lesser competition.

I will be disappointed if Young is on this team after draft night.  Some combination of the Dallas, Miami, and Cleveland 2nd round picks should be enough to move him.

I do enjoy watching him play when he is out there, but for the past two seasons he might have had like 3 or 4 extended runs. I want to see him develop, but it isn't the end of the world if he doesn't.

He has time. Still so .... Young ...

The team is too deep and too good for him to be playing now. He will continue to develop and get there.

I haven't given up on him by any means.  He's very young, and he has tools.

Having said that, I have lowered my expectations.  I thought he was starting to get it during a small stretch this season, so I do think it's in him.  But then he turned back into a pumpkin.

I'm just gonna say, I dearly hope this doesn't drag on as long as the "is there hope for Fab Melo" saga. That was excruciating.

I have definitely lowered my expectations of him
we need to see something from him
or else I think ainge moves on
as we have a bunch of other picks that would need playing time + we drafted 3 promising rookies last year

if ainge is able to draft simmons or ingram
i think that is the end for young
as there would be not enough playing time to go around

before i said that turner would not be resigned but after his play this season as a  valuable versatile 6th man
I believe and ainge has stated that he would like to keep turner

so with bradley, turner, crowder, smart, possible picks playing the same position as him
it would be likely that ainge moves on

Sure.  I haven't been impressed with anything he's done so far, but I was always willing to withhold judgement on him until mid- or the end of year 3.  There's a large list of quality players who had unimpressive rookie and sophomore seasons but started to show their worth in year 3 and 4.

Is he still on the team?  ;D
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Not really but he is only 20 still so who knows if he'll ever be decent. Either way I'm not mad Danny took him... It was the 17th pick !!! Can't expect anything from non-lottery selections

You can Expect Rodney Hood thought! Rock solid coming out, better athlete than Young, but Young had a 5" longer wingspan and he was Younger, I really think that was the two deciding factors.

Too bad he was wrong on that toss up.

Projects take time...whether you're talking about a drafted basketball player or remodeling your kitchen.  Rush either one, and the results will not be the one you desired.

As mentioned above, I believe a three year window on a team is appropriate to show what talents you have/are learning.  Steady progression and confidence building takes time for some players, that's life.  Few enter the sport and make immediate impact.

That's not to say he might not be traded if the right offer comes up...right now, I believe 90% of the team would be available.  But as far as "hope" goes, if Danny and Brad see the right kind of progression in him, I think he'll be around another year.

Ainge has repeatedly expressed the type of confidence in James Young that he never expressed for other players who were lost in the NBDL, such as Fab Melo , so yeah, I still have hope for him.

Another question to ask is if Young where a 20 year old Junior coming out from UK this year averaging around 18-20 ppg how high would he go in this draft? My guess is right around the #17 he was drafted.

This is always a tough question due to how young college players are now.  I think Young would be a star in college; maybe a top 10 or even top 5 player.  I think he will figure it out but as others have said, maybe not in Boston.  Our roster and future draft pick slate does not allow for a guys like him to hang around.

He's a bust and that's ok.
