So you know Durrant , Melo , and LeBron will want to risk their private lives and careers playing on a team with a clown like Russell.

I think this incident hurts the Lakers recruiting .   I would not want to share a locker room with a dip, stick like Russell .

Dude is mentally messed up.

No offense, but I think that worry is exceptionally stupid.

DO you genuinely believe D'Angelo Russell is going to go around spying on them and leaking it out to the press.

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?  You genuinely believe he's got mental problems and is a danger to his teammates private lives?   Are you kidding me, Shaqattack?

Maybe I'm wrong.  Were there reports of D'Angelo Russell spending time in a mental institution in College?  Maybe I missed those.

Bottom line:  Regardless of whether D'Angelo took that video with malicious intention (he didn't) and leaked it out himself (he most likely didn't), the lesson is learned at this point, right?  Unless he literally has mental problems, it's over.  You're suggesting D'Angelo is the type of guy who gets slapped with a restraining order and then gets caught sitting in a tree outside his victim's house... all because of a prank war gone bad.

Overreaction on SHAQ's part, for sure. But we can't say its without any effect either. Players, while they won't completely remove the Lakers from their list, are definitely more hesitant to consider the Lakers as a destination.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Players with the mentality of Nick young might avoid the team as a destination.   People with like... basic common sense who are willing to hear D'angelo's side of the story, probably will see it for what it was.

That's assuming D'Angelo isn't literally an unhinged lunatic drilling holes in bathroom stalls to spy on his teammates pooping.

The reason that using "common sense" is an absurd assumption when it comes to conclusions about DeAngelo Russell is because in today's minute to minute, snippet-based media, we draw "common sense" conclusions based on incomplete and possibly inaccurate evidence.  It happens all the time.  DeAngelo Russell is an "idiot", "immature", a "punk", a "fool", an "****", etc. according to people on this blog --  as if a singular incident defines a human being's character, value system, and intelligence.  Thank goodness I'm not judged for singular acts of stupidity I engaged in during my lifetime (especially when I was 20 or younger).

It sounds like Russell did something that at worst was calculated and evil, and at best was an error in judgment.  I resist drawing conclusions about him (or his actions) because I realize that I have NO IDEA who he is.  But if I had to use my common sense about who he is, I'd probably conclude that, like most people, he is complex -- and the whole of who he is can't be boiled down to a few incidents that I heard about reported by strangers.

TP

(Though this wreaks of too much common sense.)

Except that there are numerous reports about Russell's ego. And the fact that the team isn't talking to him so there must be something off. But that makes too much sense...I seriously want to roll my eyes.

Second, I recall you constantly saying Rondo wasn't bad for the locker room and always protected him. So I'm going to take your opinion with a grain of salt.

I assume you arent talking about me as i dont think i ever commented on rondo in that way, but the other part of your comment makes my point.  This isnt a jab at you, more of a general observation about today's knee-jerk character speculations.  It's almost like when you see a highlight reel and conclude the kid's a star.  Numerous comments reported in press reports or in social media that a guy is immature or disliked or engages in foolish antics are certainly enough for today's twitter mentality to result in opinions about how stupid or punkish a person is, but I honestly believe that this is an adolescent way to draw conclusions.  The adolescent mentality is quick to judge, harsh, void of nuance, and often unnecessarily aggressive.  This doesn't mean that this mindset always draws incorrect conclusions,  I'm just suggesting that it's a mindset that takes a small set of information and makes broad and definitive conclusions .  It happens all the time on social media, cable news and talk radio.  Adults do it all the time, so when I speak of adolescent mentality Im not trying to insult teenagers -- some of whom don't engage in this.  The point is that when we use only part of our brain to react spontaneously  to information tidbits and think we know more than we do as a result -- it's kind of a hallmark of adolescent style of thinking.   Usually pretty harmless in the big picture, but does represent a danger inherent in today's ubiquitous media.

Is the incident itself + his teammates' reactions + his coach saying that he often acts like a 14 year old enough evidence to draw the conclusion that he's immature?
Well... it's a logical conclusion if that's all the information you have and if you think it's enough to know the maturity level of someone youve never observed in a social situation or had a conversation with or discussed with someone who actually knows him.  Is he probably immature? Probably. But why even go there? What does it do for any of us to post on the internet anything offensive about someone we don't know?  The incident was evidence of anything from very mean to bad judgement, but where it rests on that continuum we don't know either.

Well, he's a player in the NBA, and his maturity level affects his value.   I think that it's natural to discuss that stuff.  "Character" is something that makes up the constellation of who a player is.

I'm pretty sure "one time accidental tattle tale" isn't high on the list of potential character flaws that give teams pause around the league.  To me, this situation just sounds like Young is being unreasonable.  If you listen to the most recent interview with D'Angelo it sounds like Russell has tried to put an end to this maturely, but Young is letting it become a cancerous situation.   Like I said, Young comes from an era where teammates pulled loaded guns on each other over frivolous card games.   Sounds like Russell has tried to talk some sense into him, but Young is holding a childish grudge over a situation he himself is responsible for.  This kind of behavior is pretty common.   We've all heard the stories of a girlfriend who gets caught cheating and then lashes out at the boyfriend, because he was looking at her text messages.   It's pretty easy for losers like Nick Young to point the blame at someone else for their own behavior.

I'm more concerned with his coach saying that he's got a 14 year old's maturity, and every one of his teammates isolating him.

To be fair, Byron Scott and Nick Young seem to have 14 year old's maturity as well... and those guys have been around.  Scott is a headcase of a coach who only has that job to blatantly help the Lakers tank this season.   Nick young is a 30 year old journeyman participating in a prank war with a 19 year old... and apparently cheating on his fiance and holding a grudge after being caught.    Lots of immaturity to go around.

But in the case of D'Angelo, I'm more likely to give the 19 year old rookie a pass.  Immaturity should be expected from kids stepping into adulthood for the first time.  Especially kids who have spent the majority of their lives up to this point entirely focused on basketball and not preparing for the real world.  That Laker team has been a toxic situation all season and they don't have any type of foundation, management or coaching to steer a guy like D'Angelo in the right direction.   When your mentors are a mentally checked out historical scumbag like Kobe Bryant, a lunatic like Meta World Peace and a headcase like Nick 'freakin Young, you don't stand much of a chance.

Incidents like this are the type of life lessons D'Angelo needs... perhaps it will cause him to stop hanging out with losers like Nick Young particpating in childish tank wars, understand that his nights out on the town could come back to haunt him, and realize that he needs to keep focusing on his craft or potentially suffer consequences.   How he reacts to this will be telling... and from what I can tell, he's doing a decent job at it.  He apologized.  He showed up.  He played hard.   Better the life lesson come from something as ridiculous as a leaked iphone video than something like a drunken night out on the town attacking hecklers.

It feels like your saying Russell is blameless and not immature, which is just wrong, since the entire team won't speak to him. I personally didn't find the prank funny. The kid definitely has issues SINCE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THERE HAS BEEN A REPORT ABOUT HIS PROBLEMS IN THE LOCKER ROOM. Sometimes it feels like you take your points to the extreme.

Look, Russell will be fine as a player, but the reports about his immaturity are true, there is no denying it. You sound like the people who backed Rondo on this board, which would be hypocritical. Looks like I crushed you again. Let's see how you retort this argument.

At this point the Lakers may need an intervention. The kid made a mistake, sometimes ball busting can go too far, as I think we all know. I don't think he realized he was stepping over an imaginary line, as serious as it was. It's time for a team meeting to nip this thing, before it snowballs, and the Lakers loose one hell of a potential basketball talent. And I'm not talking about Young.

Russell isn't blameless, but I don't think the fact that his teammates won't talk to him means anything.

Players don't have to be friends with each other, they don't have to hang out with each other, and they don't have to like one another.  If the other players let that affect the game/team/locker-room, then they're being just as immature.  If it's team Young vs. team Russell, everyone pick a side, that's stupid high school girl-drama Twilight crap.

The fact that the video leaked has nothing to do with the actual act of taping his friend against his will.  If Russell was truly close friends with his teammates, they would just tell him, "I don't like that, don't ever do that to me," and unless Russell was an unworthy friend, he would oblige (otherwise, who would want to be friends with him?)  Clearly his friendships with his teammates were superficial enough that they couldn't overcome this one thing (or it was a build up from other instances).

Russell caught him on tape, which was funny.  Maybe he should have deleted it right after, or maybe he should have saved/hid the video better, and he deserves the blame for it coming out.  But he did the manly thing; he stepped up, accepted the blame, and apologized for the whole world to see, so I consider his soul pretty clean.  He righted his wrong as far as I'm concerned, and now it's up to him to repent and change his ways if he wants forgiveness from people.

He's young, rich, and ignorant.  He doesn't have to be nice to people and make friends with everybody.  In fact, he already has thousands of fans and people who have loved him ever since he could dribble a basketball, so who cares if a few people hate him?  He's got PLENTY of distractions.  Also, when you have that much money, you can just buy the friends you want.  If Russell wants a deeper friendship with other people/teammates, he has to grow up.  We all make mistakes, that's how we actually learn/mature.

Organizations draft and give lots of games and exposure to teenagers and are then shocked and upset when they act like teenagers.

If it comes down to Young or Russell, dont let that door hit your ass on the way out Swaggy.

Yeah, so there goes Lbrrd's argument. Russell's camp definitely lied, since his camp was the source of the snapchat video. I think there may have been a shot Russell gave it to Nicki Minaj, and she leaked it. Still, it just shows Russell is an idiot for sharing that video with anyone. He is lucky this happened with Nick Young, because if it was a good player, the Lakers would be in real trouble.

So what lol? He still shared it with the video with someone else. That's the main point.

HE TOLD NICK YOUNG HE RECORDED IT RIGHT AFTER RECORDING IT.

So what lol? He still shared it with the video with someone else. That's the main point.
Because if Nick Young had a problem with it, it never would have left that hotel room.

Dude, what are you talking about? Why would Nick Young think Russell is going to share that video with anyone?? Think about what you are saying. Young probably thought it was a prank and that was the end of it. Besides, the entire team is mad at Russell, so he did something wrong.
