Ok. Whoa. Did not expect this.
They suggest it would take Marcus Smart and a pick.  I think it would have to be a pretty good pick.  Two years of minimal improvement hurt a prospects' trade value.  If Smart doesn't start showing offensive progress soon, his trade value will plummet.

Russell, on the other hand, shows many signs of being a star in this league some day.  I'd gladly trade Smart and a pick for him.

Still, I think the Lakers are better off just trading/cutting everyone else and keeping Russell.

Lol this is exactly what I am talking about.

Kid is juvenile, immature, and foolish, having alienated himself from his teammates in just his first season, and you want him over a guy known for grit, toughness, and resolve, and while having a rough offensive stretch, is still makes winning plays over and over again.

Seriously, it gets really old seeing you defend guys like Okafore and Russel, while dogging on celtics players all the time.

First it was that Randle is way better than Smart, then it was Brooklyn will be a playoff contender, then it was how awesome Oakfor and Russell are when they have been terrible NBA rookies, when off court antics are considered  (which Danny clearly considers ).

Why?

I get different opinions, but you, in all honesty do not come off like you root for the celtics.

I am not saying you dont, or are a bad fan, or anything like that, but if someone read your posts, and didn't see your username, they could very easily assume you root for someone other than the celtics.

Yeah I'm just like a lot of the people here.  I'm 25.  I was obsessed with Larry Bird when I was younger, but the total number of Bird basketball cards was probably greater than the total number of Bird games I had watched.   I remember seeing him dunk in an allstar game.  And my only two truly vivid memories of watching him play was a double overtime game against Portland and the famous Indiana playoff game where he hit his head on the floor and came storming back to win the game for us.   I use to live in Florida.  My dad would actually pull me out of my class early so I could go to the local sportsbar and watch the playoff games with him.

I also remember the game when Reggie Lewis collapsed mid court... and I was visiting Boston the day the headline read "Lewis Dead".

I've always had tons of celtic-related posters, figurines, basketball cards and clothing, but it was hard to follow team in the early 90s when I lived in Florida/Seattle. I really didn't have a chance to get deep into my Celtic obsession until Pitino came on board.  It also happened to be right around when I first had access to the internet in 96/97.  That changed things for sportsfans.  Not only could I easily follow box scores, but ever since day 1 of the Pitino era I've been able to either listen to the radio broadcast of the games online or watch the games via NBA League Pass.  I've pretty much listened to or watched every game since then.

This entire season has been surreal.  If we are able to win one of the next 2 games I might just break down in tears.

I was really disappointed they didn't do a quick interview with Ainge at the celebration podium.  I wanted to hear the fans chanting "DANNY!  DANNY!  DANNY!".... with all the crap this guy got over the years he really deserved an outpouring of support.  Maybe at the parade?  In my mind, he deserves credit more than anyone on the team.  The architect did an incredible job putting this miracle team together.  I'll be forever grateful of Danny Ainge. He's a freakin hero in my book. Glad to see KG and Pierce rubbing his head and joining with him in the celebration, but I felt like there should be a massive group of critics and sports writers lining up to kiss Ainge's butt after this championship.

What now!?!?!! !

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!  EAT THAT CROW!!!! EAT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm too young to remember the other ones... so that was definitely the greatest sports season of my life.  Just amazing considering where we were a year ago.  This franchise was pretty much dead when the lotto said #5.  This is totally unthinkable at that point.  People were pretty much throwing in the towel.

I could find many, more recent, posts to try and prove my point, but that is not what I am getting at.

The guy is a good contributer to the boards, and I certainly know he IS a green blooded Celtics fan.

That is why his constant extreme pessimism about the team, while giving other teams the extreme benefit of the doubt, drives me so nuts.

I truly do not get it. I get not getting your hopes so high that it sucks when they fall apart, but the level he often takes it to, is just nuts!

You could not break the guy code no worse than this. This is 100% high school behavior and dang sure want no parts of it. This is not a "prank",he did it in an attempt to break up the relationship in order to get with the girl. Its a juvenile mindset. He will have an extremely tough time in any locker room for years to come.

The rest of the Lakers should make Russell regain their trust by re-enacting a scene from Team America: World Police.

If only the Lakers had a player good enough that he should pique the Celtics' interest in trading some of those pieces.

Russell's stunt is certainly, "100% high school behavior", but so is "the guy code".

Sorry, I don't see any high moral road being taken by any of the parties in this.  Not Russell.  Not Young.  And certainly not the, "protecting-the-code-by-giving-the-silent-treatment" teammates.

If anything -- that is more "high school" than anything.

It's like watching a cheesy high school teen drama, as the awkward girl gets shunned by the popular cheerleaders.

The whole thing wreaks of lame.  They make me sick.  I'm ashamed if Brandon Bass is part of that.

Grow up.

I've read stories about this sating the locker room was already in bad shape, so perhaps this was the final straw in a series of misbehaviors and well start to get some gossip leaked about other bad stuff that Russell has done.

Is Russell immature?  Sure.  He just turned 20 years old.  He's a kid.  At times this season, it's been clear he hates playing on the Lakers.  He hates his coach... so much so that one of his teammates was overheard whispering "don't say anything crazy" when Russell asked about Byron Scott in an interview.  This has to be a miserable season for him.   Is it wrong to videotape your teammate and allow it to leak online?  Sure.  Do I give him a pass on it?  Yup.  Talent, baby.   Russell has undeniable talent.  I was a fan of him before the draft and I've been a fan of what I've seen of him as a 19 year old.  Clearly he has a way to go, but I'm a fan of what I see.   He can be special.  To me, it looks like he'll end up a Kyrie Irving-level player... that is, if his career isn't over after videotaping some cheating scrub of a journeyman.

Since the all-star break he's averaged 16 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1.2 steal with 42%/41%/76% shooting in just 28 minutes... which is great for a player his age playing that position.   Those shooting percentages will likely jump (guys like LeBron and Durant shot around 40% as rookies).   I was willing to bet on Russell before the draft and I still am... regardless of his twitter mistake.

Was his behavior immature?  Yes.   For the record, you're wrong about how I look at the Celtic players.  I'm generally pretty reasonable.  I've given plenty of them props this year.  I've had many praising posts this year alone about Kelly Olynyk, Jae Crowder, Avery Bradley and others.  I give them props when they deserve it.  People gloss over those, because of my reputation here.   Jared Sullinger is a great example.  I was one of the only people defending him this Summer.  I pointed out his stats pre-injury were pretty outstanding.  I pointed out that his per numbers in the playoffs were actually pretty solid.  I wasn't willing to say his career was over like some of the folks here.  I didn't see him as a long-term part of this team's future (still don't), but I wasn't going to ignore his talent because of his behavior.

Has Sully done some immature things in the past?  Sure.  I gave him a pass for the domestic violence stuff, the showing up late/missing practices, the inability to keep his weight in check.  Sully showed all the immaturity of a D'Angelo Russell, but was on a less volatile team with more competent management, ownership and coaching.  Who knows what kind of antics Sully would have had on a circus of a team like the Lakers.   But yeah, I gave him a pass.

As for Smart, I've repeatedly given him the benefit of the doubt.  Up until very recently, I remained steadfast in my belief that he was THE most valuable asset on this team.  A month ago I polled this forum on whether they would hypothetically trade Smart for the Suns unprotected pick... 85% of this forum, MYSELF INCLUDED, homerishly voted that they wouldn't trade him for the pick.  More recently, I wrote an extensive post about my feelings about Smart:
http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=83549.msg2054189#msg2054189

In short, I'm still hopefully he'll make a leap, but I can't pretend like I'm not disappointed in his offensive play thus far.   And let's just get this out of the way... Would I give Smart a pass if he displayed the same immaturity of D'Angelo Russell?  Yes.  I would ... and I HAVE.   Smart is two years older than D'Angelo Russell.   Let's go back in time two years to see how Marcus Smart was behaving as a 20 year old.   I wonder if he was pulling any kind of immature antics?  Hmm...  Let's hop in the time machine.   Oh... what's this?   Marcus Smart physically assaulting a fan on National television?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5sGdUIC-X8

I never at any point held that incident against Smart.  Actually, I'm pretty sure if someone dug through the ol LarBrd33 archives you'd find some pre-draft posts from me glossing over the incident and suggesting that it was just a sign of his competitiveness.   Yes, I give young Celtic players the same leeway I do opposing young guys I want us to trade for.

And for the record, it's CSNNE who wrote the article suggesting a possible Russell for Smart + picks trade.  They were just jumping on the scandal to get some clicks from Celtics fans, but I'm supportive of their hypothetical.  I think we'd need to include a pretty substantial 1st rounder along with Smart to get the Lakers talking, though.

I have heard the same things.  Major disconnect between the young players on the team (who the organization should be focusing their efforts on developing) and the veterans who are latching onto the Kobe farewell circus.  It's a disaster of a situation that the team has allowed to continue, because they NEED to finish bottom 3.  If their pick doesn't end up in the top 3, it goes to Philly and this season will have been a waste.  The young players have to be aware of that.  Most of those guys will likely be gone next year... and I'd be completely SHOCKED if Byron Scott was still the coach next year.  Scott's only there to tank.

Anyways, Russell apologized:  http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15100584/dangelo-russell-los-angeles-lakers-apologizes-recording-nick-young-conversation

He's having a rough game, but he's taken more shot attempts than anyone on the team tonight... so much for freezing him out.   It'll blow over.

Yes, Russell "secretly" taped the conversation, BUT he told Young about it right after (it is on the video).  How the heck the video wasn't deleted in the hotel room is beyond me.  Young knew about it then and didn't make Russell delete it.  That is just weird.

Felger could be right.

LA is a much more attractive landing place for free agents. Especially now that the black hole is leaving, players will start considering the Lakers again.

The Lakers are always one offseason away from being back in the fold.

Felger is an idiot. If there is a word out there that means million times more than an idiot. That would be what Felger is.

An idiotplex.

Ooh, or an infidiot!  (infinite + idiot)

Nice!
