Butler because I think Durant would like someone who can show elite defence next to him on the perimeter. I think we'd see some small ball with Durant at the 4 offensively as well so Griffin and Love are less ideal. Cousins would be the best fit alongside him but I'm not sure it would draw him as much as Butler.

Blake and Cousins are the most talented, went with Blake because of Cousins being a more notorious head case.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd take Butler or Griffin. They seem like guys who will be willing to sacrifice their own stats for the benefit of competing for a championship.
I'm not sure Cousins could adjust to a system where he's not scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds a game. Coming here with Durant and IT his PPG would drop to something like 18-20 ppg ala KG when he came to town.
Does Cousins have the character to sacrifice his stats and not be 'the man' whilst making us a contender and not causing locker room issues? I'm definitely not convinced.

Jimmy Butler just replaces Avery but adds scoring and more driving/scoring in the paint.
Having a line up of something like:

IT
Butler
Crowder
Durant
C (Horford for a reasonable price?)

Smart
Kelly

as key reserves.

Swap Durant and Crowder at PF.
That's the line up that could beat the Cavs and Golden  State/Spurs in a finals series.

Deciding trades on Durant's wishes is IMO a bad idea.

Just imagine we take player X not bcs he is the best fit, but hoping KD will come, and then he chooses to stay in OKC.

I went with Blake.

DMC is probably the most impactful and talented out of the group but I think he's too big of a risk to put in a stable situation. Meanwhile, Blake fits what we're trying to do (except shoot the 3). He's a playmaker who can handle the ball, he plays uptempo, and he rebounds. He plays rough and physical (but he also flops lol). Butler would've been a good fit as well but we already have Crowder and I'd rather we shore up the middle. Even if Durant doesn't come, acquiring BG would be a great move.

I think you can have Blake just do what Sully does, but more efficiently and be more of a threat on offense.
Rebound, hit th 15 foot J, make good passes out of the post, but provide an All Star caliber scoring threat in the post and in transition too. Imagine him running up and down the court with Crowder/Bradley/IT. Yikes.

Tommy would have a heart attack.

I'll throw out the same green goggles Idea that I've been throwing out all along.

Jimmy Butler for Bradley, Amir, Rozier, Brookyln pick, Dallas pick, future celtics first. Multiple seconds from this year and next.

Sign Horford to near Max

Sign Durant to max

Re-sign Turner to a friendly deal.

IT/Smart
Butler/Hunter
Crowder/Turner
Durant/Mickey
Horford/KO

terrific starting line-up, crappy bench.  keeping or jettisoning Jerebko, Zeller and Sully?  If keeping, bench looks better.  Probably left with only vet min options to fill out the roster.  Still could use a solid backup PG and serviceable center for that team.

If we were to ever have a starting lineup like that one, I wouldn't worry about the bench. Vet free agents would flock to us for the minimum.

This is the idea.

Blake is probably the best player to build around, so I'll choose him. A Durant pick and roll with Blake would be one of the most efficient offensive sets in the league.

I considered Love because with Love and Durant spacing the floor Isaiah would get to the rim at will. Butler makes sense too because he's a good defender, but since we already have a few of those at the same position I'd rather use assets to bring in a talented scorer in the front court.

Beggars can't be choosers though. I would literally be ecstatic if we got any of these guys for the Brooklyn pick.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I totally agree with you Jammer, but can we afford all three of them?

I also think that no matter where our pick lands, it will be traded, so I like the thinking behind this thread.

Also, can we keep Crowder?  ;D

Um, definitely Griffin.

Butler and Cousins are just as good, Griffin is the best fit.

Butler would be interesting, that might be the longest/most athletic 2/3 duo since Wade/LeBron.  If they had a defensive scheme that forces cross-court passes, they could probably pull off a lethal defense similar to those MIA teams.  Also, Butler can easily guard whichever opposing SG/SF is stronger/better, allowing Durant to save energy for offense.

Gotta love Durant and Griffin in the pick and roll, though.  I think Durant would prefer Griffin to DMC because he's a better/more willing passer.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

After last night's performance, Kevin Durant probably crossed Boston off his list. Seriously.

I seriously doubt that.  In fact, I'd go as far as to say it will have nothing to do with his decision.

If anything, it might make him wonder how the game would have gone if he were on the other side.

Boston would be an attractive team for most superstar free agents.  Now that we're in a position cap and asset wise, this summer is going to be veeeerrry interesting.

As opposed to Blake Griffin, who is currently out of the Clippers' lineup because he broke his hand after punching out one of the Clippers' staff.

Hmm.

Tbh hard to see us getting any of these players except for cousins

But I expect ainge to not trade the pick and use it on a lottery player

Say we get 1st or 2nd and can get Simmons or Ingram
There wouldn't really be need to get Durant necessarily despite him being a clear upgrade

Ainge tries to lure horford to Celtics
As horford is already interested in playing for Stevens
Plus doesn't need to give up assets

Not sure Durant would bite considering he has Westbrook who is a top5 player
But a core with Thomas, horford and Durant
Plus a great supporting class in Bradley, crowder, olynyk, sully etc all on cheap deals
Plus multiple incoming 1st rounders
And with Stevens a talented young innovative coach running plays

We would be solid enough to make east finals against cavs
Plus remain competitive through a decade
