  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Which player would appeal to Durant the most?
I've picked the 4 that I think are most attainable (at least some slither of reality in possibly trading for them this offseason from recent reports).
Why?
if you think we can sign someone like Al Horford as a free agent to play the same position or next to them on the floor, then keep that in mind.
Eg you may wanna keep our pick and sign Horford and Durant instead of trading for one of these other guys.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm going to say Cousins.

Durant is a perimeter player, so I think putting him alongside a big man who can dominate the paint makes for a perfect pairing.

Also Durant is a very calm and collected player, so he's not likely to clash with DMC.

I think Butler's skill set is too similar to Durant's, I think Griffin is too lacking defensively, and I think Love is just not good enough.

I like every one of them, but I voted Butler simply because his a guard.
Trading for a good player isn't enough, we need to sign a good free agent.
So trade for Butler and sign Horford.

Cousins. Heres why:

Love isnt good enough
Jimmy isnt on the block so getting him would mean overpaying which would mean Brooklyn + Smart + probably Crowder just to get a conversation going. (wouldnt be surprised if we had to throw in Bradley). When a star isnt on the block they are virtually unatainable.
Blake: I also am not sure if hell wind up on the block and I overall just dont like him. That being said If he could be had for Brk + Smart Id certainly do it.

Cousins: With all the issues it looks like this summer he could finally hit the block in earnest. Hes a huge risk because of the personality stuff, but the bright side is hes a way bigger risk for teams that dont have solid cultures in place (LA, Philly, NYK). For those teams (the teams with the assets we cant match (Porzingis, Russell, top 2 picks, Okafor, Noel) ) Cousins is exponentiallly more risky than for us. All these factors combine to the point where I think Demarcus could be had for Smart + Brk '16. His talent level for that price is absurd.

He also has the lowest salary cap hit of the group next season, so we will be able to put a stronger team around him and KD if we get him.
Thomas-Cousins-KD is a nice big 3 and the supporting cast could still be stellar as I think we would be able to keep AB, Crowder, Turner, Sully if we wanted to, and KO

I think colluding with Durant and Horford to sign them as FAs without giving anything up is our best bet.  They're friends and want to play together.  That's pretty much how the NBA works

Sums it up.

I think we need to all take our green goggles off for a minute and think logically.

You've got to ask the question, where can Durant find a situation better than having Ibaka (borderline All-Star) and Westbrook (top 5 player) and the answer is no where except Warriors. My personal belief is Warriors won't do that deal simply because they will lose what makes them great; their depth. I also think OKC will never win a title as long as the Spurs and Warriors are there, so KD is really stuck but even if we had Boogie i don't think it's a better situation than Ibaka and Westbrook.

I'll throw out the same green goggles Idea that I've been throwing out all along.

Jimmy Butler for Bradley, Amir, Rozier, Brookyln pick, Dallas pick, future celtics first. Multiple seconds from this year and next.

Sign Horford to near Max

Sign Durant to max

Re-sign Turner to a friendly deal.

IT/Smart
Butler/Hunter
Crowder/Turner
Durant/Mickey
Horford/KO

I don't think K-Love or J-Butler would do it. Unsure how Durant would respond to Cousins. Supremely talented but such a difficult character. That could go either way. So I have chosen to go with Blake Griffin.

terrific starting line-up, crappy bench.  keeping or jettisoning Jerebko, Zeller and Sully?  If keeping, bench looks better.  Probably left with only vet min options to fill out the roster.  Still could use a solid backup PG and serviceable center for that team.

After last night's performance, Kevin Durant probably crossed Boston off his list. Seriously.

If we were to ever have a starting lineup like that one, I wouldn't worry about the bench. Vet free agents would flock to us for the minimum.
