Celts17pride on RealGm had a good point about the Bulls:

IMO, it was Butler. Bfb hinted at it last night. Probably backed out when they couldn't get the Kings first round pick for Gasol. Had the Bulls gotten that trade to go through (Koufos, Mclemore, and pick), then they go full tank and trade Butler. They would have entered this year's draft with as many as 3 lottery picks.

Hopefully we do end up revisiting that in the summer. The wing scorer we need for sure.

They already have that Kings pick at top 10 protected for '16 & '17.  I thought the whole discussion was about dropping the protection on it.

I'm guessing Harden.  I know he has a personality that's not very good and doesn't play defense.  I bet the Rockets were thinking of a big reset.  They may have determined that for all of Harden's offensive genius, his defense is atrocious and the culture may never be good with him as the main man.

That Kings trade had no shot.

I know it's unlikely but the Brow would really complete this team.

Ainge has a lot of assets at his disposal, but I doubt he could afford the Brow.

Bradley, Crowder, all three Brooklyn Picks? NO probably turns that down.

And that's scary to me, gutting the team of role players on good contracts to add a star means our glue guys are gone. If you take Bradley and Crowder away from the team, even while adding a superstar, you screw up the balance. When the Knicks traded for Melo, they gutted their team and picks and since have had no one to surround Melo with except overpaid medium-level players.

The ideal situation is a team that wants to rebuild and has a star. That way we can send young players, picks and filler and not all our glue guys on reasonable contracts.

So, let's talk about something that definitely happened.

Danny Ainge definitely called the pelicans at some point and said something like "Hey man, no pressure but you can just say the word and I will give you all of it... both Nets picks, Dallas's pick, Minnie's pick, my pick, whatever for Anthony Davis. I've got some rookies that might have some promise too. I'll also take the worst contract in the league off of your hands."

When this happened, did the Pelicans hang up the phone?

The only pressure to take such a deal would be the possibility that the offer would disappear if Ainge makes a different move. Otherwise, there would be no point in cutting such a conversation off. Better to wait until the summer. See where the Pelicans pick will be, see where the Celtics picks will be, and make a plan.

Well it sounds a lot more reasonable when you put it like that.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
For now I'm pretty sure it was Jimmy Butler.

They tried to move Pau for Mclemore and dropped pick protection, there was also a rumor about Oladipo for Butler, and Jimmy's probably begging to be let out of that horrid Chi-town situation of mediocrity.

Reset with Doug McDermott, Portis, Nets pick, Celtics pick, Bulls pick, Kings pick etc...2018 Nets pick...

Jimmy Buckets could very well be a Celtic this offseason.

Would Ainge give up that pick for him if it's #3 or #4? It's very possible I guess.

I suspect Gorden Hayward of the Utah Jazz. I cannot picture Oklahoma trading Kevin Durant. The only other team I can think of is Minnesota and Andrew Wiggens. Then there could be Milwaukee with Greg Monroe and Jabari Parker. Danny is smart and a visionary at his position. We will get another opportunity this summer. A second round appearance and solid six win or better playoff showing after a 48 win season is very good progress for this team.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Jimmy Butler will be a Celtic this offseason.

So Chicago is going to go nuclear with their roster?  I do think their current window is closed but I don't see why they would trade Butler.  If anything, he's the primary building block to get to the next window with that organization.  Their hands are gonna be kinda tied until they shed that Rose contract but I think they should, at least, keep Butler around.

I think this offseason we are really looking at a perfect storm scenario.  We'll have potentially a top 5 pick and will be looking at guys like Simmons, Ingram and Hield.  We'll also have a crop of free agents who we have been reaching out to as well as trade situations where teams are looking to move on from certain players plus a couple unknowns.   We should be able to get a superstar and a player who is possibly a cut below.

Can't even imagine the return CHI would want for Butler... it'd be monstrous.

Some intelligent posters on here so someone probably nailed who DA was talking about.
I like the Butler post where if Gasol was traded then JB might have gone here.
If I had to pick one from the list it would without a doubt be Anthony Davis. I would trade a lot (especially if it was draft picks) for him (giving Memphis their pick back should do it...lol..I KID!) I doubt very much it was him though.
Edit:Doesn't make sense for N'Orleans to trade the beast.
