On Toucher and Rich he said they were very close to making a big trade yesterday.

Any ideas?

It's gotta be Love or Griffin right?

Ainge said they backed out after two days of talks.
The Cavs and Love is my guess.
Straight after talking about that potential trade he talks about how teams are still hunting for a championship as the follow up comment, which is striking to me.
Good thing is he says that the framework is there for the offseason (at least that's my interpretation).

The only other one I can think of could be some kind of 3 team deal because he says something like 'we came close but ultimately both teams just weren't ready to do it'. It's hard to say whether he means the Celtics were one of those two teams or if it was two other teams that couldn't agree...

Sounds like something big could happen on draft night. This is going to be an awesome offseason.

...AND SPECULATE

We were pretty tied into Love and Cousins and Griffin, so...

Melo? I think Knicks would love picks to rebuild around Zinger. OTOH, Melo's wife would probably shoot it down.

Harden? One of the Rockets should have been traded.

Butler? p---ed off the coach?

KD? = no, UFA
LBJ? - not a shot
Kyrie or Wall - Can't imagine that Danny thinks that highly of them to consider them superstars
Westbrook? - To build around KD?
Curry, Paul, Davis, Leonard, Lillard, George, and D Jordan don't make any sense on the face of it.
Neither does KAT.

That's about it as far as superstars unless Danny has a broad definition,

I'm guessing it was hayward. The rumors usually aren't true and Ainge is usually targetting someone we don't expect anyways.

Would Danny really refer to Hayward as a "superstar"?  Doesn't seem like a 0-time All-Star quite rises to that label.

If we rule out the rumored guys, we know Danny covets Cousins and Sacramento is in disarray.  We know Chicago's probably considered moving every one of their name players, so Butler's a distinct possibility.  I don't think we'd be willing to pay for Harden, but Houston's enough of a mess that they might've considered it.  Melo, maybe, though it'd make fans here pretty unhappy, but NY seems ready to build around Porzingis.  Every other candidate seems like more of a stretch.  Oh well, have to wait for the tell-all autobiography in 2030.

Hayward is no superstar though...not even close...

Maybe edit the topic title so people know there was a 'big trade' discussed?

One guy that Stevens loves is DeMar Derozan. If they think he's going to bolt then he could have been discussed.

Just can't think of anyone else significant.

Front page says it wasn't any of the guys rumored, and specifically not Griffin, Howard, Horford, or Love.

I don't think Cousins is on the table yet, and I don't think Ainge would've used the pick to get Melo.  Hayward and Monroe were rumored a bit, so it's probably not them.

Derrick Favors?

Did he actually say 'superstar' when talking about yesterday's potential deal? I don't remember him saying it in any follow up talk to the questions...

Butler seems to be the most likely option. My buddy who's a Bull's fan hates the coach and thinks the team is in total disarray. With the Gasol rumors out there and Kirk getting shipped out (Kirk is apparently a beloved Bull by Chicago fans, weird but every team has THAT guy) I can see a reboot coming. Who better to deal with than us?

Something like:
We take Butler and Rose
for
Lee Amir, BRK 16', 18', Boston 16' and a youngin or two?
Gets rid of Rose early while Jimmy's agent is demanding he go to Boston or something.

ps. thanks for editing thread title :D TP

Kaufman's tweet says "stars" but could be attributed to needing all 140 characters.
