I don't understand why not not take a chance and rent Dwight Howard for the rest of the season. At least we could make the playoffs more interesting this year maybe make it to the ECF. It will give the Celtics more appeal to free agents this coming offseason.

If we can get Dwight for just lee jerekbo and BOS 1st why the hell not. We are not losing anything at all! And who cares if Dwight leaves we are just using him for a playoff run, and maybe he's actually good. We still would have BKN 1st and DAL 1st plus a chance at ECF and attracting 2 max free agents.

Just read on twitter that the Rockets turned down Al Jefferson and Hawes for Dwight?  I am surprised unless they are just looking for picks and clear space for Durant?

Did they not see how well they played with Tristan Thompson in last year's playoffs?

Now imagine Dwight Howard in that role.

Because assuming HOU won't take Varajao back, CLE would have to trade LeBron, Kyrie, Thompson or Love for him.
Even with Varejao and Mozgov you still need like 4 million more salary so that is Shumpert or Smith (most likely).  Certainly doable, but Cleveland would have to bring in another wing from somewhere else I think to really make it work. 

So here is a 3 team trade
CLE - Howard
HOU - Mozgov, Smith
PHI - Varejao, CLE 2018 1st

Cleveland can then use the Haywood trade exception to take on a SG from somewhere else.

No, his cap hit is whatever the 10-year max would be or 150% of his 2015-2016 salary, whichever is lower.  If you see a lower cap hit reported, it's just because someone is using a 10-year max number from a prior year, because any future estimate is just guesswork.
