6-4 with length 6-8 wingspan from providence-we got a player 45 minutes away
-stops on a dime, quick first step-shifty with burst
defensive potential, tops in steals-this maybe the top guard in country
this is the kind of guard i want

Been saving post 2400 for a worthy cause, and I agree, rollie.

Have believed for a while that this is who Danny selects with BKN pick too, perhaps to the chagrin of many. Wish we had taken Portis at 16. But hindsight is 20/20.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I like him very much.

He could be a two way player, and he can distribute. I'd love to have him if we miss out on Simmons.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone who likes him, but it's interesting to note that he's exactly the same age as Marcus Smart.

I wonder what Smart would be doing if he'd remained in the NCAA for two more years, and where he'd be projected in this draft. His sophomore numbers were on par with what Dunn's doing this year as a senior.

Dunn is a good player, but it's kind of a problem that we already have 3 point guards on our team. Can't see Danny drafting him unless we trade Rozier.

If we're drafting another guard in the top 10 I think I'd rather it be Demetrius Jackson.

In my opinion he is getting over rated. He is good but I don't think he is like top three or anything

Maybe you're both reading off his preseason DraftExpress video which said the same thing,  It's wrong on his shooting as currently his TS% is 53.8%, which is better than average for the NBA, and his TS% was 54.6% last year. 3FG% is 35% which is a tad better than IT and he shot 35.1% last year. He has, however, raised his FG% at the rim from 57% last year to 62% this season, which is better than any of our guards except ET and he's very capable of dunking on any drive. I'd expect he could raise both stats easily enough as there's nothing wrong with his shot and he won't get as many defenses designed to shade and double him in the pros. When doubled, he is very good at getting the ball to the open man unlike our guards. Can also create his own shot unlike AB or MS and he takes over games unlike anyone but IT on our squad.

Bigger problem was he was too aggressive/sloppy with his passing resulting in TOs, but he has improved in that area too. He takes over games unlike anyone on our squad other than IT and unlike most college PGs. Right now I don't see any real weakness in his game unlike just about any player that comes into the NBA.  I have just started watching college ball for this season, but the Big East is a top conference with 3 of the top 4 teams in RPI and he's without peer there. Does not mean he is a lock, but he is an impressive 2-way player. I would certainly consider him unless there is a top SF available to fill a bigger position of need that can shoot from outside and inside and can defend, because that’s what Dunn can do.

He's probably a very "safe" pick in that he won't be a total bust. But I have to wonder at what point does Ainge take some riskier big men who have the measurables or athleticism but could also be the next big stiff. We can't keep taking point guards year after year.

It's fine to take the BPA but we've seen that there have been strong PF and C prospects the Celtics could have drafted the last couple years. Guys like Portis and Capela would look great on our team right about now.

I'm not criticizing Ainge for not being a perfect drafter because god knows it's a difficult task. I just hope that he's not avoiding "project" big men because he has some bias against them. It's true that the truly skilled big men are very rare and tend to go early in the draft, but does not having the option to draft a KAT or Porzingis mean you just keep drafting guards and undersized forwards? Nevermind Porzingis because we already know Ainge wanted Winslow over him.

That's the other thing - I really hope Ainge doesn't have a bias against Euro big men because it would be a woefully outdated attitude to have.

As far as taking a PG in the draft with Dunn as an option? Ainge would do it. My observation is he plays "value" in a hoodie way sometimes. Bill, to his downfall, gets caught up in draft "value failures" from time to time, but, wins all his game so who cares.

Ainge would rather have four top point guards he can trade than the "fifth best center" in the draft.

In our debate, let's look at past behavior. Ainge took Rozier...why? A dozen reasons? BPA? It certainly wasn't because the team needed another PG on the roster...was it?

Ainge wants to trade Thomas/Smart/Turner just as much as he want to trade everyone else.

Last time Danny made a big trade he got KG and Ray and one of the few players he had "left" on the roster was a young PG named Rondo. Ainge has a different PG valuation proposal just like Bill used to avoid expensive pass rushers in favor of tight ends. Can a B- NBA point guard help an A+ front court win a title or two...KC Jones? Does this still apply in the modern game? My guess is Ainge thinks so.

If the best trade pieces Ainge can get in the draft "nowadays" are point guards? Let's get this Dunn kid in here.
