Was he ever unavailable?

Moreover, who is likely to trade for him?

I think the only thing he'd be good for is if somebody has a multi-year veteran contract they're trying to unload to create relief moving forward.

Example: if Memphis wanted to trade Zach Randolph.

But Ainge probably wants to hold onto cap space on the off chance the Celts swing a big trade or get lucky in the lottery and become attractive to one of the more interesting free agents.

The Celtics have had David Lee available in trade talks since the minute he made it onto the roster. :D

Seriously. Can't imagine Ainge woke up this morning and said to himself, "You know, I'm going to finally start taking calls about David Lee."

Perhaps Ainge is actively shopping Lee, as opposed to listening.

her per minute numbers are pretty solid.  He can still average 18 and 8 for a team.  Maybe a team that needs a decent power forward will grab him.

Which teams are lacking at that position?

SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Knicks, Lakers, Sixers,  Brooklyn could use more talent.  Dallas could use a backup to Dirk.  Minnesota could use him.  you know, all the teams we don't want to help ;)

You mean which teams would be willing to torpedo their defense to give David Lee enough minutes to put up 18 and 8?

I think the better question is who has salary to match and might be interested in adding Lee to give their bench unit some needed scoring?  Who needs a scoring-focused backup center?

I honestly have no idea.

Package Lee and Zeller or Jerebko out

In return get a matching salary(ries) and picks

This is the way Danny likes to do things

Houston, as part of a deal that nets them Morris and ships us Howard. This deal:

except it's Brewer going to PHX, not Ariza. The Celtics include the 2016 Dallas 1st and a future 2nd rounder to HOU.

When he first came the assumption was that we need his large expiring salary in case of a star becoming available, now it sounds more like Lee is available for the best offer.

No, he can't. This is the same argument people kept making when the Celtics acquired him. As PhoSita noted, his defense is so terrible, he won't see enough minutes to average 18 and 8.

I think Lee looks washed up around the rim.  That's his problem.

I'm in favor of giving him away.  He could get some minutes for some teams right now I think but I think we get little back.  Just freeing up the minutes for other players would help us a lot.

If he would accept it, I'd just bench him and have him around if needed and have his contract as an asset if needed.  But he is already complaining about minutes and he should be playing less.
