These guys kind of have an interesting rivalry since Kelly was drafted.   Both guys are considered "unathletic"  pfs that can stretch the floor.  We all know it's likely not a good idea both are out on the floor at same time. So there are always talks in this forum as to which guy we should keep which guy we could trade.  I haven't been able to catch much of the games so far.

Who looks to have improved their body/games more from last season?

We trade whichever player Danny can trade to get a superstar with a package of players and picks. If a team wants Sully in that package, let them have him. Same for Olynyk. Neither player is going to be a star and both look like rotational role players with major strengths and major weaknesses.

I just hope Danny doesn't dump either one. I would really like to see some return on these players besides real late first round picks and second round picks which is what both are probably worth right now.

Which is better? I think it's pretty even with Sully currently in the doghouse and Kelly getting rotation minutes but if KO is indecisive and weak in rebounding the ball, I could see him riding pine and Sully getting his minutes.

My vote goes to KO. Looks like he made a ton of improvement over the summer. Not too high on Sully atm

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
KO's problem has always been confidence, as the skill has been there. With him taking the opportunity to improve his strength and conditioning each Summer, I think we are beginning to see him feeling more comfortable and in control.

With that being said, I agree with Nick in that if another team looking to trade an all-star has a preference, they are welcome to their choice of the two. Sully is getting slammed lately, but I am not sure his play has deteriorated that much.

Up to this season I have favored Sully over KO and the stats probably show it for both scoring and rebounding. Remember Sully was the most reliable scorer on the team for a while. However, I have come to favor KO now because he can do more things on the court such as passing and better defense. Now we see he worked on his body in the off-season more successfully than Sully. In the Nets game, the team played better when KO was on the court than Sully, though I don't know their +/-  offhand.

KO, easy. Sully still looks out of shape and slow and while Olynyk has looked bad at times, when he decides to be aggressive he looks unstoppable.

I think KO has consistently improved on his body, and maybe a little under appreciated with his athleticism.  Of course he will never be a high flyer or very strong but he has had some real nice dunks in his short career, can take some players off the dribble(had a nice crossover move in the Spain game) and has improved his strength.  When he first arrived he kind of moved a little clunky I guess I would describe it but is a smoother athlete now(maybe finally getting real comfortable with his body after a late growth spurt)and his coordination has improved (liking the Dirk 1 foot floaters).

His advanced stats show he is a solid defensive player too which I never would have expected coming out of college.  In the Nets game I remember 1 play where he closed off the faster Young from driving.

Also KO seems more confident and not passing up as many shots as in the past.

I always thought Sully was the more talented one initially, but I think KO's work ethic makes me trust him more if we were to only extend 1 beyond their rookie contract.

KO, and it's not particularly close.

Olynyk looks like he's really filling out. He's added some spring in his step, he's being more aggressive, his defense has improved, he really looks like he's ready to turn the corner. Sully on the other hand still looks the same. Has some talent, does some good things but he's still held back by his weight and conditioning.

If you told me also was gonna put up 15 points a game I wouldn't be shocked. If you told me Sully was gonna play 30+ minutes a game I wouldn't believe you. So KO improved more at the things he needed to improve on.

Too early for these threads. I imagine Sully will turn it on when the season starts, he wants to get paid. I hope KO continues to get better because his passiveness and ankles have hurt him.

I want all of our guys to get better and we don't need to trade anyone. Trade for upgrades not "just because."
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

For sure, makes the most sense. Good response, inhibited that knee-jerk reaction a lot of us are having to such questions when it involves Chubs.

Agree with Nick -- if either is part of a request in exchange for a talent upgrade, trade them.

KO may be improving his physique better than Sully but I still see KO being really soft under the boards while Sully is in there fighting for and getting the ball.  I prefer PFs that rebound over those that don't.  Defensively, they seem about the same -- both making an effort to improve but neither is great defensively at this point.

This is pretty accurate and I concur.   But I would like one caveat, Sully is much slower than KO on defense.  KO tries more too and a has a tad more range but both of them are not elite athletes and this causes them to get fouls as they can't always stay in front of their man.   KO's =/- are superior in this regard indicating his better D.  I like people who take care of their body and act like a professional and don't eat themselves to injury.

I agree.

I think it would be better to trade Sully though, because there is really no sign that he will lose weight.   The real questions do you keep the guy who works on his weaknesses or the guy who posts twitter pics like he is but comes to camp looking like something Herman Melville wrote.  One is a better role model for the rookies than the other.  Still neither stands out that much from the other.   If KO was more confident, we would not be having this conversation or if Sully weighed 260 his weakness might be less hampering.    But slow guy, who can't jump who compounds this by being fat is the bigger problem right now.

Trouble is what could you get for these guys?
