So far, Kelly has received far more minutes (19.8 mpg) than Sully (13.0 mpg), and more of KO's time on the floor has been with the top-of-the-rotation players, while Sully has logged a large share of his minutes as the veteran chaperone with a lot of the youngsters.

We have only played through three pre-season games, of which two were not even against NBA teams.

It is silly to read too much into what has happened so far.

While Sully has not seen the floor as much yet, he has not, actually, played all that badly in the minutes he has been given.  Here are their per-36 comparisons (team rank in parenthesis):

Player    PTS        REB       AST       STL     BLK
Sully    22.1( 5th) 11.1(2nd) 2.8(10th) 2.8(2nd) 0.9( 7th)
Kelly    13.3(12th)  6.7(7th) 4.2( 9th) 1.8(9th) 0.0(12th)

Viewed on a per-minute basis, it's not as if KO has out-produced Sully.  Quite the opposite, in fact.

I think it's reasonable to observe that KO has been much more highly utilized and may so far look like a more obvious fit with the types of lineups that Stevens has put on the floor.

But I also know that this is just preseason and it is still very early.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Regardless if Sully is doing what he is 'supposed' to do, I think there would be a lot more positivity around him if he would occasionally go all-out and show he is totally in the game. Playing lackadaisically 100% of the time rarely makes a good impression.

So, at the 9:58 mark (00:31 in the video) in the 2nd period of the game against the Nets, when Sullinger tipped a ball loose from Jack and dove on the floor for the steal, passing from the floor to Jerebko resulting in Jack committing a flagrant foul on the latter (and getting ejected) ... he was playing lackadaisically?

Really too bad sully was not a few inches taller or had a few inches longer wingspan.  Don't think he will ever get the body alot of people here hope for(to compensate avg height and wingspan for a pf, poor explosiveness).   You can only change your body so much

If he could play, probably had a better chance to be a top football player

Highly doubtful. Too tall. Very few players have ever been 6-9 in the league because that height creates a lack of leverage in the trenches. And at his height/body type the only position he would  be able to play is OT.

Sully was awful offensively v Nets. He was frustrated.  He played hard though, like that play where he dove on floor to steal ball

Honestly, I think Ainge never should have gone public about Sully not being in good shape. It has hurt his confidence.  He needs to model game after Silas (like Bob Ryan said): focus on his strengths as a rebounder. He is a great rebounder.  He should forget the 3 point shot, it is brutal.  He has a sweet inside game, is able to get his shot off; poor man's Horford.

I really like Sully. I think he is down right now, hope he gets his confidence back.

I admittedly have a bad habit of exaggerating so 100% obviously isn't true, as evidenced by your link; however, I don't think I am the only person who thinks Sully looks like he could be a lot more active. Otherwise, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I have been an avid supporter of Sully. He is extremely talented and has excellent basketball instincts. The problem is he might eventually prove himself unable to actually play the game of basketball at the highest level. KO at least fits Brad's system, but that doesn't mean I actually think he is better.

Doesn't help when the thread gets started after arguably KOs best game and Sully's worst game so far this preseason.

I'd say all our bigs look expendable tonight. Johnson is the only one that has looked seemingly solid.

My first look at Sully is in tonight's Knicks game .. . immediately thought he looked just as heavy and unfit as ever.

The local broadcast talked about it for a while and thought he looked bigger than last year.

He is what he is at this point. Never going to really transform the physique. Too bad.

to be fair, I think sully play much better tonight (although he is now playing against Dleague type players). He seems to be the only celtics that can rebounds tonight and also been getting more shots within the painted area.
I like Sully as a player but sadly I think he just don't fit CBS's style.

one thing I notice is when Sully gets the ball, the ball movement usually stops

Viewed on a per-minute basis, it's not as if KO has out-produced Sully.  Quite the opposite, in fact.

You can bet the other team producted more with Sully in there too, probably markedly so, this is why he is almost always in the negative +/-.

2-16 the last to games from the field and you feel compelled to defend him?  I think it is almost a sickness with you, I fear.

You can always spot a Sullinger defender by their omission of stats.

He is 7-32 for FG attempts for this preseason.  That is 21% not from the three from the field.  That is horrific, thanks for omitting this in your analysis.   Didn't fit your narrative  so it was not important.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6624/jared-sullinger

KO is not shooting great but he is shooting better.  10 for 24 which is .42%.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2489663/kelly-olynyk

Sully also per minute analysis is pretty bad analysis too.   He still lacks conditioning to play extended minutes so why extrapolate minutes that he simply can't play because of lack of conditioning and tendency for foul trouble?  It is disingenuous at best.   7 foulsin 31 minutes of play the last two games.  That is a foul every 4.4 minutes, that means he would foul out in 26.4 minutes.  So per 36 definitely would not work for him, given he is fouling at that rate.  If one looks all his preseason games he would last but 33 minutes.  Still not 36.\

He rebounded well tonight again, big surprise, he shot poorly, 1-8.   If I were you I would not get attached to him.

I would guess one can say that about food in his presence as well.   It stops existing.
