  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
This Nets losing streak and the firing of their coach/gm is almost enough to make me feel better when the C's are playing so poorly.

This thread is great.

Listened to a podcast that Jonathan Givony was on for draft express and he said that Bender is ahead of where Porzingis was at, at the same age. So if we get in the top 3 I will be very happy.

I would say that's pretty accurate. In the 2014, before he pulled out, Porzingis was projected to go in the mid to late teens. I remember some mocks having us taking with the James Young pick.
Porzingis played 35 games for one of the top Spanish sides in 2014 and averaged 15 mpg. Bender has had 2 decent games so far, both against absolute bottom-feeders in Israel. Not sure I'm buying this yet.
Sorry forgot to respond to this yesterday.

You are comparing Porzingis at 19 to Bender at 18 though. So Givony's statement makes sense if you realize Bender is the same age Porzingis was two years ago not one.

I understand the bias against big white european guys. I'm probably talking myself into him so I'm less crushed when we don't get Simmons or Ingram.

That being said the knock on euro players in that past has been they are soft and play too far from the hoop. In the current NBA, having your big more comfortable far away from the hoop has gone from a negative to a necessity.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

ESPN is saying that Bryan Colangelo is high on the GM list at Brooklyn, With TT or Mark Jackson as a potential coach.

I understand that BC put together some good teams in the past, but what does he have to work with?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Mark Jackson as coach. That would be great news, he's a horrible coach, and free agents won't want to play for him either.

Bad news: Not getting a lot of help from Cleveland (losing to Dallas) or OKC (beating Minnesota).

Good news: Even better, though, is that New Orleans plays LAL. We win either way.

Mike

Cleveland beat dallas.

Forget that minny first... it's more valuable as a early second round non guaranteed pick. A chance for ainge to prove his (james) worth(y)

I like that outcome. Don't care about the Minny first, just want to make sure they don't overtake Brooklyn.

On the Wojbomb podcast (I refuse to call it the Vertical), Woj has an ex-Nets front office guy on there to talk about the Nets' situation of today: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-vertical-podcast-with-woj

There is no way Minnesota loses more games than Brooklyn. They just lost to the thunder by 5. They also destroyed Brooklyn when they played each other, and that was with Jack healthy. Minny is way better than Brooklyn.
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

And while I tend to agree, Brooklyn is the team (Yes, with Jack) that won in Chicago and Miami, beat us twice and took GS to overtime.

Things are looking good, but it's hard to take anything for granted.

The Nets apparently have reached out to Tom Thibodeau.  I'm hoping he won't be interested in the job.  He's a very good coach.  And although he couldn't turn the current Nets roster into even a decent team, he might be able to do that with some solid free agent signings this offseason.

Quote
According to Mitch Lawrence of Sirius XM and Sporting News, the Brooklyn Nets have reached out to former Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau.

The Nets have reached out to Tom Thibodeau about coming to Brooklyn to coach their team, per NBA sources.
    — Mitch Lawrence (@Mitch_Lawrence) January 13, 2016

Thibodeau last coached in NBA in 2015, with the Bulls, having spent five season in Chicago. He won the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2011 and holds a .647 winning percentage as a head coach in the league.

He's known for being a defensive-minded coach, hard-nosed, and grinds out his players -- sometimes too hard. But, he's regarded as one of, if not the top "free agent" coach on the market.

If he does get hired though, you'd probably be able to hear Brook Lopez's foot whimper in fear all the way from Boston.  Thibs doesn't just play his top players a lot of minutes, he runs his players HARD in practice.  He embodies hard work and grittiness as a coach, and he expects the same from his players.

There's still a chance Brooklyn catches up to LAL for the #2 spot, I'm crossing my fingers.

[dang] Knicks. I want to cuss them out so much more but I'll get suspended.
