Tonight was a double-edged sword. Either the pick got better or the Celtics gained some ground in the playoff race.

Pick wise tonight sucks but playoff race wise tonight was good.

Missed the game but not too surprised by the result. I'm convinced that Brooklyn is more mediocre than bad. Highly inconsistent and lacking a closer but I feel like they can beat anyone. If they somehow make the playoffs it wouldn't surprise me. If they get us the number 1 pick it wouldn't surprise me either.

If the Nets are mediocre then why are they 9-22 with the 3rd worst record in the NBA?

they look scary for a team you are rooting against.

Ellington was on fire.  That's why the Nets won.  If he hits a normal percentage of his 3's, the Heat win.  It happens sometimes in the NBA.  The Nets just lost 2 straight winnable home games before that, so it all kind of evens out.

And they are still the 3rd worst record in the NBA.

A "mediocre" 9-22, predicted to now win 24 after tonight's win by ESPN. ESPN is predicting that 2 teams will miss the playoffs in the East with 43 wins (seems pretty reasonable). If the Nets go 35 and 16 to win 44 games they'd make the playoffs. You think the probability of that happening is reasonably high enough to not be surprised?

Well that point diff between Suns and Nets is out the window now that Bledsoe is out.
As of now there is only 4 wins between third worst team in the league and the eight seed in the west. If the west was strong like in the past years, it would be different...
Like I said before, I don't see Suns and Nuggets making trades to be better now but trades for the future. Utah and Milwaukee have young and potent teams but for some reasons maybe this is not their season (Utah because of bad luck-for now, and Bucks because of Kidds incompetence). There could be a chance for them to tank but I agree with previous poster they probably will not thank.
Sacramento has good players but that team is a time bomb...
Minny has a young squad and they will try to win games. Unfortunatly they are not very capable of doing that.
Portland could easily shut down Lillard and tank.
Davis is not carrying that team by himself into the playoffs and we could see that in first 20 games. If they trade Anderson, Gordon or someone else of the core guys they are turning that ship into the tank direction no doubt and the line is very very thin with those guys (btw they are playing like crap).
And what about our beloved Knicks if they decide to trade Melo? They are not winning any games without him.
It's a long season guys...

Give me a legitimate reason why the Nets will eventually be better than the other teams besides the "lack of incentive to tank".

Well, the nets won and lakers, phoenix, pelicans, sixers, bucks, wolves and kings lost.
