So ... where are all the people who argued that the Nets "aren't that bad," "could contend for the No. 8 playoff spot" and "wouldn't possibly deliver a top five pick" unless Brook Lopez got hurt?

Lopez has been excellent and the Nets are still dreadful.

May the lottery gods finally be kind to us.

Yeah, where is LB33? He was driving the Nets will be a 500 team bandwagon, but it looks like he was the first one that jumped off.

Same foot is sore again ......rutt-rowwe.....three surgeries latter......Embiid lovers paying attention?

Ok.......on to Houston

Rockets won't even need their always injuried cripple Howard to massacre a Lopez less Nets team.

ON ! ......to defeat # 8

He will also be jumping off the 76ers bandwagon very soon.

X-Rays NEGATIVE on Lopez's foot.

We'll see. Stress fractures aren't always visible.

Even if there's nothing broken, a foot sore enough such that he has to be taken out of the game is a very bad sign for the Nets at only game 7.

That's the thing. It only took 7 games of overuse for this to flare up. What's going to happen to Lopez after 20 or 40, much less 82? And they're committed to him for 3 more years...Daniel Ainge is one brilliant young man.

Maybe...or maybe he knows that Billy King is a really dumb one.

This team is really in trouble which is great for us. Don't know if anybody saw Jarett Jack's post game interview but he looked borderline depressed. That's exactly the kind of mindset we want these guys to have because it will only start to snowball from there.

For the life of me I do not understand what Billy King is doing.

Count me as one of the few people who actually thought, at first, that the Pierce/KG trade made sense for the Nets, even with all the picks they gave up.  Brooklyn had a useful core of vets, and it was very logical to think that adding polished pros like Piece and KG could vault the team into the top 3 in the East.  They also unloaded some terrible contracts to the Celtics.  There were a lot of people, including many on this board, who dead-panned the trade at the time.  I wasn't a huge fan of it either.

The most puzzling thing about Billy King is that even when he might be doing something logical (like the Pierce/KG trade), he doubles down with an absurdly illogical misstep.  For the Nets, this idiotic move was hiring Jason Kidd to be head coach.  If your strategy is to build an older, veteran team to push for playoff relevancy then you do not hire a completely unproven ROOKIE head coach who is a former player roughly the same age as the older veterans on that team.  You hire someone like Flip Saunders (RIP) or George Karl or hell even Larry Brown.  You don't hire Jason Kidd.  That is too much of an experiment.

So all that blew up in Billy King's face in 2014 with Kidd getting out of dodge and Pierce leaving soon after.  King couldn't even fully tank in 2015 because of the pick swap remaining with the Hawks from the Joe Johnson deal (arguably King's worst move as GM).  Further, he found a way to trade KG but still has not moved Joe Johnson as if somehow JJ is going to magically play his way into making the trade for him worth it.

If I was the Nets GM I would do whatever I could to move Lopez and Johnson and Jack right now.  Hell do what the owner really wants and bring in 5 more guys from Russia.  Get rid of every player that has the Billy King taint.  You can't be much worse, you are losing your pick now and in 2018, you need to find players somewhere.  Get rid of Lionel Hollins and give an assistant like Jay Larranaga a shot at a head spot.

But no that will not happen - we are going to watch this ship sink with Billy King as the captain.  How this guy gets paid to run an NBA franchise is beyond me.

The amazingness continues. Cannot wait for my customized Simmons Celtic jersey to arrive in the mail. Don't wait till the prices skyrocket in 2016, fellas.. order now.

would be a good idea until he chooses a different number...  :o

Dang, good point. I wonder if he responds to email? Could at least narrow it down a bit.

He wears #25 at LSU, but that's retired for KC Jones.

Yep, and #7 is out of the question with the way Sully has started the season...

this is going to take some serious groupthink.

Maybe Cowens would let us un-retire #18.

Thank you Billy King!  Dumbass!

Those people probably just focused on the Nets letting Deron Williams walk and thought "How much worse could they be?"

But the Nets also swapped out three of their top 10 rotation players from last year for clearly inferior players this season.  With Jack becoming a starter, they basically replaced their entire bench with scrubs.  Add in them ignoring the obvious decline in Joe Johnson and that's how you think the Nets won't suck.

Every day I am waking up and reveling.

The Celtics could win every game for the rest of the season and STILL end up with two top 10 picks this year, and one of them could be the #1 pick in the draft.

The Celtics could get ANOTHER lottery pick in two years. I mean, is Danny Ainge a genius or what?

Plus, we have our own #1 this season.

You mean the guy who just last night put up 20/20 on 8/10 shooting?  Or the guy who in his previous game put up 23/14 on 10/10 shooting?

Yeah, that Howard, what a bum...LOL!

We also have the right to swap picks in 2017, in addition to their 2016 and 2018 1st's (unprotected).

It could very well be three consecutive lottery picks.  Plus whatever we get from Dallas, Minnesota and Memphis.  And that's not even considering our own picks.

We're in a lot better shape than most national prognostications would have you believe.

So, the Nets are 0-7.

I just spent like, half an hour, looking through the historical standings on Basketball-Reference to see which other teams in the last 15 years or so started 0-7, and how those teams finished.  Of course, the post I was making got erased because I was auto-logged out.  Sigh.

Anyway.

The basic range of outcomes for an 0-7 start were 18 wins to 29 wins.

There were outliers, though -- the 2009 Nets finished with 12 wins; the 2002 Grizzlies finished with 42 wins; and the 2004 Chicago Bulls finished with 47 wins!  That last one is nuts.

My guess at this point is that this Nets team ends up closer to the mid-to-high 20s.  But baby, let's aim for 11!  You can do it Nets!

The Memphis pick in particular seems like it could be pretty great.

Check it again when they are 0/10 ...what the odds are

0/8 is looking really strong ......in Houston Wed.   :)
Pretty much any game Lopez sits ....is a Nets loss.

I think they will trade him for a draft pick ....like Danny did Rondo ...get the best deal possible......to a team looking to make a push in the playoffs ......maybe the Rockets or Heat  .

I think Nets cut their losses , accept defeat this year , fire Hollins and take a first round draft pick or assets for Lopez.

Absolutely. That pick conveys right when they should be starting to rebuild.
