He's in a contract year.  He's in good shape.  Probably is going to get a nice extension with us and be our first star out of the gate. David Lee is probably going to be relagated to the bench as a hardworker type and veteran  leader.  Amir same thing.  I don't see these guys coming in and taking starting jobs away from Sully and Zeller.  I think they are here to do the dirty work and push guys like that.

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I also think most of you overanalyze this stuff when the celtics think more like me than you realize.  Not much discussion if he's not going anywhere.  Sully is due.  It might be slow going at first but I kind of doubt it.  Sully and Smart are in for big years.  Neither guy is going anywhere.

That's a true statement.  Discuss away though at your hearts content.

A true statement based on what, your overinflated sense of self-importance A profound mystical experience that occurred when you touched the Bill Russell statue? Did Red visit you in a dream and say "if you think it, so do the Celtics."?

"the Celtics think like me because I say so, therefore my statements are more valid" is utterly insipid on the face of it. Feel free to submit stronger credentials, but "rogue CB poster" doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Also, the idea that posters overanalyze a sports team more than the sports team itself is awe-inspiringly difficult to take seriously in the slightest.

TL;DR:  ::)

A true statement that DAnny isn't staying up wondering if he should trade Sully.  There is no reason to.  He's on a rookie deal and we are positioned to re-sign him if he has a break out year.

I agree that Sully will probably be here for the entire year, unless he tears it up and can be included in a mid-season trade package for a better player.

I actually think he stands a good chance of starting too. Lee has shown that he's not a prima donna, and if Sully plays well in training camp I could see Stevens giving him the nod.

Giving Sully a chance to play 32mpg and turn into that solid 18/9 guy we've hoped for could pay huge dividends. Better to explore that upside...and if he doesn't show it, then move Lee into the starting lineup later in the season.

If we aren't resigning him it would make sense to deal him.  But for what?  Markieff Morris who is a worse  player?  If he makes it through the year he will get an extension.

If Ainge sees a deal for Sully that he thinks is a good deal, he's going to trade him. That's what Ainge does, that's what Ainge has always done, and that is almost certainly what Ainge will continue to do. There's a reason why he's "trader Danny" and not "Should have been the GM of the Utah Jazz" Danny.

I don't entirely agree with you but I appreciate the sentiment.

I agree with some of the positives about Sully. I agree about Lee's role. I think Amir will have more minutes than Zeller this year because he's simply a better player and a better fit for the system.

I'm far more optimistic about Sullinger than many on this board. He appears to be working hard this offseason to get in shape. He'll never have a "classic" basketball shape but he looks far fitter than he has. His work with John Lucas can only help him. If he's healthy - and that's the big if - I think he'll take the next step and could end up putting up 18/10 type numbers in 30 minutes or so.

Now the question becomes do you retain him for doing so? I'm not so sure about that. I'm not worried about his contract because he is a RFA and those guys simply have almost no leverage. It's very easy for the team to retain a RFA since most other teams don't even bid due to the cap hold. But does he get moved in the offseason or the trade deadline? I wouldn't put it past Ainge. While I think other guys are more likely to get traded, a 18/10 Sully could be the focal point of a trade for someone else.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I expect Sully to begin the season as a starter. They need to deal him before the deadline though. In no way do I trust him to stay in shape after getting a big contract, deal him now before he leaves when another team overpays him.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Updated the title because I just assumed that the OP left that word off by accident. He will still be a slow and incredibly earthbound player. Not to mention if Sully has even a reasonable year he's gonna be worth 10-12M at least. I am not interested in paying that for him. I don't trust him and I don't see how anyone else could at this point.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...
