Mark Jackson is annoying because he often (pretty obviously) speaks in a way to create catch phrases.

The rest of the stuff in this thread, though, is hilarious.

"HAND DOWN...

MAN DOWN! Give me GREAT offense over great DEFENSE any day of the week, and twice on leap years."

-Mark Jackson (probably)

Lol, TP ;D. My personal favorite is 'momma there goes that man' ::), but his idiocy was kind of offset, for me, in the finals by the nauseating amount of camera and discussion time given to Steph Curry's family ::). It was ridiculous.  Every single game they just had to point them out in the stands, talk about his father and how Jackson played with him, and say, yet again, how great Steph's parents are, particularly his mom, before ending with his wife. *facepalm* Was any of that necessary to the dialogue, if you even want to call it that ::), coming from booth during the games, because I certainly don't think so, but whatever.

As far as Bird goes, Jackson has, on occasion, brought up how many times Larry carried his teams and remembering him diving on the floor like the play that Rondo made in game 3 against the Magic in the 2010 ecf, but he has pulled back, every now and then.  I remember watching a regular season game between the Cavs and Celtics on abc in 2010, and after Lebron made this hook pass or something off the pick and roll, JVG said, "how many players can make that pass?  What vision!  Lebron is the best passing forward ever.  It used to be Larry Bird, I would say, but I'll say this for James, he might be the all time greatest passer."  At this point, Jackson said that, while he agreed about the greatest passing forward of all time ::), he disagreed about JVG's last point, citing Magic Johnson, which is fine, but no one ever mentions Bob Cousy, Pete Maravich, or Rick Barry (no matter how much of a tool he is).  Especially the first two.  Without them, there is no Magic.  Those guys invented all of that stuff, for crying out loud.  I just don't understand why the players of yesteryear are dismissed or not even mentioned, anymore.  I think most of these idiots at espn, etc., believe that basketball started with Jordan ::), who is apparently god ::). Yeah, okay ::).

Mark Jackson needs to preface his statements, with "In my opinion"....Instead of pronouncing them as if they were absolute facts....There are millions of young viewers he is influencing with his remarks....Larry Bird was a better Basketball player than LeBron, I've seen both many many times...LeBron has athleticism over him, but that's it my friends...When it comes to Basketball "skills", We shouldn't forget how GREAT Larry Bird was in every aspect of the game.

Thats your opinion.

Yep, but I'm not on National TV, stating my Opinion as FACT...like that Jerk is.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Why is he a jerk? Because he thinks Lebron James is one of the best players ever, like many others believe?

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Thank God we have no more Marv Albert or Tim McCarver. I like Mark Jackson he is insightful but Hubie Brown is the best for an expert fan to me. I have learned so much from over the years.

Hubie Brown is the man! I totally agree he's the best analyst.

I don't care either way about Mark Jackson but I do like the saying he uses often:

"Hand down, Man down!"

Whenever Hubie Brown talks a small child develops a deadly disease.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

When I watch the National Broadcasts and I have to hear that Idiot Mark Jackson Pronounce players as the Best of all time...He says these things loudly, as though they were actual facts, not his opinions.

He's been stating for a couple of years, that LeBron is "The Greatest Passing Forward of all time"...Someone needs to shut this Jerk up---or maybe just show him this video of Larry Bird's passes....Passes that LeBron could not even dream about making, or even attempting.

Somehow, Larry Bird's Greatness has not only been overlooked, but has been purposely diminished by a lot of these Ex-Players, working on television....Here's a clip---and tell me that LeBron is the Greatest Passing Forward of all time...Screw you Mark "Agenda" Jackson--!

TP and thank you

Lebron is a great passer and all, but there is a difference between holding the ball for twenty seconds (and only passing when it's for an assist) and just being a brilliant passer at all times
I trust Danny Ainge

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Larry Bird is my favorite player of all time, but having a flashy YouTube reel doesn't make you the best passer any more than having an amazing dunk reel makes you the best scorer.

Lebron is the greatest traveling forward of all time.
He travels every single time he makes a move.
If they called his travels, and his offensive fouls, he wouldn't be half as effective as he is.
preaching to the choir brother.  TP

You realize that when someone says something that is inherently subjective it is that person's opinion, right? And that the alternative is every single color commentator in any sport, or any event, starting nearly every phrase with "In my opinion..." which, as most people who take 2-3 seconds to think about it will tell you, is an implicit part of color commentary.

Again, I don't like Mark Jackson, but this is a pretty silly complaint to lodge. I would also add that if there are "thousands of young basketball fans" being influenced by Mark Jackson then we have much bigger problems than the "In my opinion" insertion.

The Celtics INVENTED Ball Movement, IMO:

From Cooz, Hondo, DJ, Rondo and Captain - The Boston Celtics have had some of the very BEST passing PGs and Swingmen of ALL TIME.
