Despite all the hyperbole and redundancy from other threads, I like this thread. Gets to the meat of a few issues that surround the Celtics right now, issues that DA and CBS have to get right to improve the team. I think the main issue beyond which players to chase is 'who do you need to keep?'
Who still has improvement or is capable of playing a part on a winning team? Sully isn't a player I would trade cheaply as he has shown that when he is fit he is a good producer and could get better. KO wouldn't be the first player of his type to blossom and overcome his weaknesses, AB could kick on like T Allen and make you kick yourself for not holding on to him. Young, like KO, could blossom and looked better towards the end of the season. I could go on but you have the drift, there isn't really anybody from the main core of players who doesn't have some value or potential to improve.
Yet we know the current squad, as it is and even with the picks we could add, will not contend next season. Even if all players improved, the dominant 'star' players are not there. Cousins would be a start to improve - we have seen many other potential targets and trades suggested. I think DA will only pull the trigger on a franchise changing deal if he can get one that is a lay down winner for the Celtics. Not because he is overly cautious, but because there is improvement in the squad and he will know how much a lot more clearly in a season's time, and still have assets to use.
