Hahahahahahah. No. That post is gold, though.

It was something about Jeff Green turning into the next James Worthy and Rondo turning into the next Magic or something and FWF replied by saying that we'd get stomped by Fab Melo-as-Hakeem Olajuwon.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Also, re: my Nerlens-Draymond comparison: I was talking largely about the defense and their positional versatility in that end. Nerlens isn't nearly the interior defender that Jordan is, but he can be used in far more scenarios than DeAndre can. That said, I think the gulf on offense between Noel and Green is closer than some might think. They're both relatively identical when it comes to finishing at the rim. With Noel's athleticism and potential, I honestly don't see why he can become an even more effective finisher; after all, Green worked his way up from 58% at the rim as a rookie to 67% this year, so Nerlens finishing at 66% as a rookie seems very promising.

Not to mention, Nerlens is a surprisingly capable passer. He doesn't (yet) have the jumper or the ballhandling, but those things can be developed; working on your feel for the game is notoriously harder.

It was awhile back, but I think I was alluding to that post when I said it, because that one was pretty amazing in its own right.

...I think Jeff Green was going to turn into Bernard King, though.  And Rondo was going to be I think Stockton, which deserves props if only for the ultra-rare cross-racial comparison.

Here's the perspective of 76er fans on this trade:  http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1394267#start_here

Spoiler:  It's two straight pages of hysterical laughter.

They have countered with: Tony Wroten, #35 and #37 for Smart, #16, #28.

League executives also said the Celtics were trying to move up in the draft, using their two first-round picks and two second-round picks as bait.

The executives said the Celtics were looking to trade point guard Marcus Smart and the Nos. 16 and 28 picks in the first round to Philadelphia for center/forward Nerlens Noel and the No. 3 pick. But the 76ers, the executives said, weren't interested.

Executives said teams with multiple picks are trying to trade some of them and move up in the draft. The 76ers, for instance, have six draft picks — one in the first round and five in the second round, Nos. 35, 37, 47, 58 and 60 — and may look to package some of those or even sell a few of them.

The Clippers are a team looking to buy a second-round pick.

Broderick Turner is a legitimate reporter, and the LA Times is a legitimate newspaper. You should probably not make so much of an effort to look stupid in the future.

I am sorry but this is a BS rumor that makes literally no sense.

First...this ace reporter claims that "league" executives somehow knew about a Bos-Philly trade proposal?  How would a "league" executive know about that at all?  Does Hinke call NBA headquarters every time another GM contacts him?

Second...every single NBA fan knows that Philly has been specifically tanking as HARD AS POSSIBLE to get top draft picks (like the #3 they have this year).  Why would Hinke, of all people, ever do this trade?  It is quite simply to ridiculous to believe.

Finally...LOL?

People should keep in mind, as is confirmed postmortem after each year's draft and trade deadline, that the rumors we are reading now are either deals that already died days ago or longer, or planted there by teams to throw off other GMs, and in either case most often inaccurate. This rumor seems like both. The Bledsoe to NY rumor was another one that has already been laughed off by both GMs

This is not that surprising. As a longtime Sixers fan in Celtic territory, this is the type of thing Red Auerbach used to do to try and build up the value of his players, and make himself seem like a genius. Every pre-draft and near the trade deadline, there would be rumors of ridiculous one-sided deals. The Jazz were always offering Darrell Griffith and a first for Greg Kite (stiff personified), for example. Ainge has always tried to be Auerbach II. Fans in the '80s remember the late night fire alarms at the visiting team's hotel, the no air conditioning game against the Lakers, the usual "Kevin McHale is seriously injured and will not play" but plays anyway crap. Ainge has worked the same way, remember the severe but fast-healing Paul Pierce injuries? Boston fans and sportscasters love this. Ainge is trying to get the local kid and showing how valuable Smart is. Not going to happen, but it gives the fans/trained seals something to clap their flippers about.

Usually I like to read the whole thread when I see something I disagree with. Clearly this is not something that is in your usual M.O., so I'll recommend it now. I find it really helps clarify things.

IIRC LB is from like Oregon or Seattle or something. Hardly Celtics territory.

edit and also, back to the important parts of the thread, I found it:

Ok, this is an ultimate what-if scenario.

If Rondo takes his current game and incorporates all of John Stockton's moves like continually setting picks & hitting a bunch of outside jumpers; while at the same time, Green becomes like Bernard King, a virtually unstoppable scoring forward, who can hit his shots from nearly anywhere on the court, does that get us a title, provided that the other role players handle their assignments well?
I think we'd make a good run until we got taken down by Fab Melo as Hakeem Olajuwon.

Smart and Noel are very much the point guard / center versions of each other, being extremely gifted defensively and questionable on offense. Historically the center wins that comparison hands down, but we're in an era where the world champions were trotting out Draymond Green at center and a shutdown wing defender won MVP. With Smart you are also getting 3 years of control, instead of 2, and no major injury history. That matters.

That said, it's going to take much more to get the #3 pick included. Maybe something more like:

Smart, KO, #16, Dallas 1st rounder, Brooklyn 1st rounder (their choice)
Noel, #3
Embiid has issues that could continue.

Be careful what you wish for. Champs didn't need a center at all, runners up sat their center.
