A 10 page thread on Joel Embiid??

Alrighty then.
It's the off season for the celtics. You take what you can get.

I just find it funny how last year everyone on this board was going crazy for Embiid (even with the knowledge of his injuries) as if he was going to be the next Hakeem Olajuwon and now his career might already be over before it begins.

Also, this totally causes this BS tanking style that Philly has adopted to totally backfire.

Golden State tanked half a season. Won a title.

San Antonio tanked half a season. Won four titles.

Oklahoma City tanked for three seasons. Got nothing because the basketball gods do not approve of stealing teams, but have the potential to make the Finals year in year out.

Cleveland tanked for three seasons through sheer incompetence. Got rewarded with a second go-around of the league's best player.
So that means since tanking worked for the Warriors 6 years after they tanked it didn't work for the 6 teams ahead of them (actually 5....The T Wolves double tanked that year with two picks ahead of Curry) so your chances of tanking successfully are 1 in 7 and it will take 6 years to come to fruition. Yeah. Get me in the playoffs please.

Do you think Johnny Flynn is at some 7-11 right now telling people about the time he was drafted ahead of Steph Curry?

Is your math bad or are you just not up on Golden State's recent history? The Warriors tanked in 2012. They were bad when they drafted Curry.

There's still a great deal of uncertainty regarding when Dario Saric, who is more of a small forward, will come over. According to what we're told, it absolutely won't happen before 2016, and could get pushed back to 2017 when he’s no longer bound by the NBA rookie-scale contract.

It is hard to say that a team that won 36 games the prior year and hadn't been to the playoffs in multiple seasons tanked their way to a 23 win season.  I know Curry was hurt and they traded Ellis mid-season, but they were looking like a bad team before all of that.

So they didn't just tank. They tanked multiple times successfully. As opposed to the T Wolves. Yeah. Get me into the playoffs please

Those links are all talking about the same event. Preferring the playoffs has nothing to do with it.

I would say they built a team. Building a team is nothing like tanking imho.  Dray Green isn't a result of tanking and I don't think Iguodala is either or Bogut.

I personally view losing to save a protected draft pick after a certain point of the season a bit different than going into the season with the complete intention of losing as many games as possible. The year of the warriors I think they tried very hard to be competitive and win games for the first 50 games, realize they didn't have the horses and then stopped trying. Although the Heat did not really do this this year, I wouldn't have really held it against them if they lost their last 3 games intentionally to ensure that they didn't lose the number 11th pick in the draft. I think at those levels it is just smart business, but this is clearly a slippery slope.

The bigger thing is the NBA needs to eliminate protected picks. Teams need to either trade first round picks or not. A system where a team can either have a top 4 pick or lose the pick completely creates so much more incentives for teams to tank than a team that might just get 5th instead of 4th. I do wish the NBA would fix that.

He wasn't expected to come over this year.

They are no more "my sixers" than golden state is "my warriors" or cleveland is "my Cavs".   I understand what Hinkie is doing with the 76ers and I respect it more than most people here.   That's about it.  Hinkie understands what a lot of people here don't:  Superstars win titles.  I respect how fully invested he is into landing a superstar.   It's admirable.  I would have taken Embiid 3rd as well.  The Marcus Smarts of the worlds are easier to replace than a fully functional big man phenom prospect like Embiid.  Maybe the conspiracy theories here are right and his injury is more serious than they are publicly saying... maybe not.

Let's see if the plan fails before people here prematurely bury them.

Welp. The train has left the station. Embiid is destined to be a bust forever and ever, and Sixers fans are bad people who eat unhealthy food and throw things at Santa.

Hinkie understands what a lot of people here don't:  Superstars win titles.

The vast majority of superstars DON'T win titles.

And what Hinkie understood is that he could follow a strategy that screwed over his own fan base and sponged off the rest of the least for several years and, as long as there were plenty of folks like you around to defend him, he could get away with it.

I would've drafted Embiid if he was available.

I thought I read that he "could possibly" miss the year, or was that some sort of media spin because a setback isnt news?
