Did not watch him play this year, but I must say he looks really good in the Draft Express video. I really like his intensity.  He models his game after KG, and you can really see it on both ends of the court. I know we have a glut at the 4 position, and BP is not a shot blocker, or even a good defensive rebounder. Still, I would not be surprised if he was the BPA at 16, and would not be disappointed if Danny drafted him with that pick.  I think he can be a solid NBA player.

I wouls be ok but not thrilled with the pick. He does look like he has bulked up a little since college season ended, which is good

Does not have a long wingspan nor much lift to be able to contain, stongeelr/longer front court players. He wont provide much rim protection. Good quickness to defend out from the perimeter.  Good jump shot

His jump-shot looks impressive. I wonder if he could be a David West like PF.

what i have read of portis paints a picture of a ceiling of a role player. he has a good chance of having a career in the nba as a role player, which is nice and good for him.

i just dont find that particularly exciting for the celtics. i am not sure he would contribute that much to the celtics. i suppose if either sully or olly are traded, portis becomes more valuable as the first pf off the bench.

but i am not particularly excited over such a pick at #16. in the twenties? sure, anyone who can make the nba in that range is fine. but i was hoping that ainge could do better on draft night, be it by the draft or a trade. maybe i have just set my expectations too high.  :P
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

My thoughts exactly, but we are picking at 16 in a draft that seems to significantly drop off after the first 6-7 :/

I am probably in the minority here, but I would trade James Young for Portis straight up.

I'd much rather have a fierce competitor with good but not great potential like Portis, than a kid with all-world potential, whose attitude on the court screams "I don't want to do the dirty work".
The moment I write it it is obvious that is a dumb move. I hope Young comes back stronger and willing to play D.

Portis is cool. Celtics type of guy. Can also play some 5. And will not end up here, unless Sully or Kelly is moved.

Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

He has a 7-2 wingspan and a standing reach of over 9 feet at a height of 6-10 1/2

I'm still a little torn on Portis :-\ He seems to have improved his game since college ended which might impact what he is going to deliver on the next level. I'd still be OK with Ainge picking him if there isn't a better player available (obviously ::)).
Still hoping Kelly Oubre falls to us though ;D!

Even if he is BPA when we pick, I just can't see Ainge adding yet another young PF to the mix. He would either pick a player with similar talent level and upside at another position or trade down. I don't see Portis having a future here in Boston.

Portis is a good defender who can switch out and guard the perimeter.
He averaged 1.5 blocks per game and 8 rebound per in college.
He hit .365% of his 3 point attempts and shot .737% from the line.
These stats indicate that he is more well rounded and could be as good or better than both sully and Oly.
He stands near 6'11 and has +7' reach. He should be able to guard the center spot.
While not a prototypical shot blocker he displays a defensive tenacity and a hyper competitive will to compete on the defensive end.
He may not be as skilled as Towns or have as great a defensive impact as WCS but he is a multi talented, versatile player with a nasty streak.
Just the kind of player CBS seems to like.
We could do a lot worse with the 16th pick.

I could see the C's drafting him, without making any immediate trades. Then dealing Sullinger at the deadline after he showed he can be in shape for a half season.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I would not be thrilled. I rather draft Anderson at 16

I like the sound of Portis but not wild about drafting another PF after Sully and Olynyk.

I would want one of the other traded this summer if drafting Portis.
