Apparently he blew away the competition in workouts. C's brass said he was better at escaping the trap in a 2-on-1 drill, and also defending the PG bringing up the ball.

I like the pick.
Rozier is an insane athlete with a super high ceiling on the offensive end, whilst also being a great defender.

Danny realizes he needs to swing big by skipping these role player types like Portis, Dekker etc...just sucks he couldn't get Winslow.

This guy wont help us win games next year and we'll stink...without Bass and an Evan Turner trade, we should pick top 8 next year.

Whatever helps you sleep at nite .  It's a horrid pick.  Period.

Who would you have taken at that position?
I like the balls it took to take this guy. Have you seen Rozier play?

He's swinging for the fences with pick#16
You may not agree with my top 8 pick in 2016 sentiment, but you don't know what you're talking about to call Terry Rozier a 'horrid pick' with #16. It's a great pick. High risk, very high reward.

Think of a point guard version of Monta Ellis (slightly smaller, but stronger and even more athletic), but who plays NBA caliber defense and plays hard on every play.

But we could have had him at #28. He's a borderline second rounder.

You want a high risk high reward player? Were probe my better off taking Upshaw at #16. At least he fills a need. Rozier is coming in on a log jam. If we do trade any of our guards, he has to be really impressive to take time away from Smart, Bradley and Thomas. If you think he can be much more special than those three, then please convince us why, because he's not getting time on the court with those three in the court, which makes this pick a total waste.

hes a combo guard with incredible hops and an enormous wingspan (like 6'8" wingspan?)
do you really think we are keeping all those guards?
is avery bradley the long term answer for us?

id say he wasnt available at 28 either.
nbadraft.net had him as the 4th best pg in the draft....
im saying its not a horrible pick as many of the impulsive reactions here are making it out to be...

Ainge has compiled a lot of picks this year and so far hasn't been able to to trade them for anything. And to make this worst, he drafted a player that plays in our must log-jammed position.

I think the Celtics might be this year's Pheonix Suns.

I guess Danny wanted another E'Twan Moore on the roster. So glad we are adding value to an already average roster. This pick is going to surely attract free agents

anyone think we took Rozier to exchange with Dallas for Anderson?  I could understand that but can't imagine what we'd get from them in addition to Anderson.   fingers crossed there's a reason behind this befuddling pick.  hope to god this kid blows our minds in summer league in a couple of weeks

so, on pick 23 with Hunter, RHJ and Looney still possible at 28.  I would have preferred any of them to Rozier.

I don't think so, based on these quotes:

Stevens on Rozier:
"He's a vavourite of Danny's.  We think he's a really special talent.  I'm excited about Terry.  You'll enjoy watching him."

C's rep - "Rozier is the fastest guard in the draft.  Gets to the rim.  Worked him out twice.  Voracious defender."

Sounds like they legitimately like him.

But looking at the guys draft express profile (there's not much else to go off on him haha) I see the following:

Physical
* 6'2" and 6'8" Wingspan
* 190 lbs @  < 6% body fat
* 33" no step vertical, 38" max vertical

Quite a physical specimen with a wingspan-to-height ratio almost as good as Rajon Rondo - partially makes up for his lack of outright height.

Explosive athlete from what I can see - guy looks like he has a devastating first step, and an crazy vertical.


Skills and talents - Strengths
* Good ball handler
* Good at changing speeds
* Loves to attack the basket
* Capable jump shot and very capable scorer
* Elite defensive player
* Good rebounder for the position
* Low turnover rate
* Great motor - plays hard and doesn't give up on plays

Skills and talents - Weakenesses
* Jump shot lacks consistency
* Not anything special as a passer
* Questionable shot selection
* So-so 'feel for the game'
* Generally perceived a more of a natural SG rather than a PG or combo guard

Looking at all this (plus seeing videos of how he plays / moves) I can certainly see why Ainge could see potential in this kid.  He reminds me of a smaller Dwyane Wade in a lot of ways in terms of the way he moves, the way he shoots, the way he attacks the basket, physical strength, etc.

But...the fit seems questionable (given we already have three modest sized guards, two of whom are defensive / energy guys)  and as others have said, I would have to think this kid would have still been available either at #28 of by moving up a couple of slots from #28.

Ainge must have liked him a LOT to take him that high up. 

Another thing this makes me think is that guy (to me) basically looks like a total clone of Avery Bradley but with better physical strength, better ball handling and better rebounding.  Could this indicate that Ainge has a trade planned that would include Avery Bradley?

I expect a combo forward.  Kevon Looney is a guy who was once projected to be a possible top five pick, so he seems like a potential buy-low candidate with star potential who might be available at #28.

This pick does not fit the needs of this team. Team need wing scoring in the worst way..not an undersized PG that has no outside shot whatsoever

Prepare yourselves for Jordan Mickey next, the undersized party will continue. Rozier is a solid player but there aren't enough minutes to go around unless someone gets traded.
