What a dumb article. Sans this season and the last we were a playoff team or contender from 2007 to 2013. The only times we picked in the lottery was twice since then (2007 5th pick Jeff Green, who we turned into Ray Allen, and 2014 6th pick Marcus Smart who was our PG insurance in case Rondo didn't work out, which BTW he didn't and plus we already had two PFs in Sully and Olynyk, so drafting Randle was pointless). The highest we picked during our playoff runs was 16th in 2013, when we traded up for Olynyk. I agree that Ainge isn't the best at drafting, but he certainly isn't the worst. He's found great players that were in non-lottery range. Sullinger is a great player, he just has to lose the fat. I didn't like that he traded up for Kelly Olynyk when Dieng was still on the board (RIM-PROTECTION!), but overall the 2013 Draft was pretty weak. Smart is a great prospect, he's a game changer and has great leader qualities, toughness and works hard, exactly the type of player you want as the leader of a fierce competitive team. JJJ was a dumb trade, but Moore has turned into a good role player, he's actually doing well in Chicago. As much as you can expect from the majority of 2nd round picks. We missed huge on Butler but we had Green back then, and during that time we weren't looking to blow it up just yet. Draymond Green was another player we missed and went with biggest draft bust Fab Melo, but I can't fault Ainge for falling in love with 7 ft of muscle. Melo didn't pan out, and neither JJJ, but those guys were picked in the 20 range of the draft, one of the harder areas to find talent. Now if Ainge had picked in the lottery a garbage player I would be livid, but he hasn't. Ainge is a B in the NBA Draft, where he's amazing at is asset collection and trades. Would you rather have an overrated kook in Mitch Kupchak or Billy King running our team? Nah, we good. We'll draft a big body this time and NOT fail!
