There is no way the C's will get the 13th or 14th pick.  If they sneak in to the playoffs, they'll get the first non-lottery slot, or 15.  If not, there is no way they will catch Phoenix or NO for the best lotto records. So, if they miss the playoffs, the worst they'll pick is 12th.
Unless Phoenix or NO jump them in the lottery.

Duh.  Ya, good point.  Too early in the morning out here in HI. ;-)

I made both of these points on the first page of this thread...

Thanks to all for the replies!

You guys are right-- I should have said if we pick 12th OR 15th.

I am worried we will make the playoffs since we keep winning games we have no business winning (most recently vs utah and at the Pelicans last night).

A lot of people have mentioned maybe Oubre at 12. I know we are supposed to draft best player available, but Oubre is a 2, isn't he? Obviously we really need a week and/or big man. I personally sort of feel the SFs in this draft are overrated, I'm not super keep on Johnson or Winslow. I just really hope we can get WCS, or Turner! It's not looking likely but I will keep praying...

Oubre, Looney, Porzingis, Mario, Winslow, Turner, Big Frank 1 may slip to 13-15. Lyles, Portis and others are okay draft picks that C's could consider if no one does slip. I honestly didn't think James Young would slide past 12 last year. So maybe C's get some more draft luck.

Oubre could play either 2 or 3.  He is 6'7" with a 7'1" wingspan.  He only weighs 200lbs so he'll need to add some weight and strength.  He's a good shooter, good rebounder and good defender.  His passing is a weak area.  He's had some freshman ups and downs but if he's available at 12 we should thank the basketball gods.

I like Justin Anderson. He has had some bad luck this year or he would be higher on the draft boards.

geez SL, are you now requiring posters to actually READ a thread before posting in it? how unreasonable you have become!!  ;)

I think finishing ninth place in the east is fishing last. I would hate to see this team pick 12-15, hopefully they can move up a couple spots. People are forgetting that a couple guys might stay in school, guys like Oube and Winslow do not look anywhere near ready. If I had to choose I'd say Looney and Booker fill needs but might not be there. A safe bet is Hollis-Jefferson because of his defense.

Really? I don't remember any mocks having Young higher than 13. I would have loved to see where Young would have been drafted if he stayed another year.

I'm not speaking about mocks when it comes to James Young I'm talking about talent level. Remember he wouldn't even work out with us. Then the car crash happened and he slid down the draft board. James Young was a 7-12 range lottery talent. If Porzingis or Mario have a bad work out given their situations it's possible, then they may slide. Or like with Young one small injury can equal 5 slot drop

I just see him as Prince or Marvin Williams if you are out of the lottery and draft a young Tashaun or Williams it's not bad.

Looking at DraftExpress, they had him at 12 a month before the draft but they dropped him down eventually to 25.  NBADraft.net had him at 17.  Young is a pretty good player but there is nothing elite about him.  Getting injured in that car crash before the draft certainly didn't help.

Young had already dropped some before the car crash.  Of the players drafted before him, I would have put him ahead of Payne and possibly Warren.  I definitely would have taken LaVine or Nurkic over Young.

from what i have read, looney has great skills and abilities and can play either position, especially on defense and rebounding. however, he is 6'9.5", which is a bit short for a pf, but fabulous for a sf.

his drawbacks are in offense. in that, he has no real post game, thus as a pf he would be limited. at the same time, he is not a good shooter/scorer, so sf would be a problem. which is a shame since as a 6'9.5" sf who can play defense he would be close to an elite player.

without developing as a shooter he will remain a talented, but limited player, and a tweener at that. as i think about it, it is almost the anti-jeff green. looney would not score much, but he will play with passion, provide great defense and rebound very well at both sf and pf.
