It's a dumb rule but that shouldn't be a catch.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It's pretty apparent the Pats could care less about winning this game. Handful of inactives, super conservative play calling, going thru the motions.

The Brady scare aside, they're just trying to get thru this game and not get anyone killed.

No more injuries is paramount, but this Dolphins team is so beatable even with 2nd-teamers.

I bothered to watch the game instead of doing something else - would like to see some effort at least. But I do totally agree.

Btw, that td is probably the nail in the coffin in this one. I can't imagine the Patriots scoring 7 more points.

Guess I don't understand the rule. He didn't maintain control til the ground from what I saw.

Looks like the Pats are playing possum for the second week in a row.  Gonna keep it close and try to win it in the 4th.  Clearly they don't care that much if they lose this one.

Strange move since historically having home field has mattered a lot, but given that the most dangerous AFC opponents are probably gonna be Wild Cards, I guess it makes some sense.

I understand the reasoning but if they're going to play like this they may as well keep Brady out... Pretty sure Garoppolo can hand off

I agree with that.  But I think the strategy is to keep the game within a score or two heading into the fourth quarter, then they'll let Brady try to guide the team to win.

Basically, I think the idea is they want to make the game shorter so as to limit opportunities for injury.  In that vein, they're not gonna really play their normal game except for the 4th quarter.  If they win, they win, if they lose, well, what are the chances they have to travel to Cincinnati or Denver for the AFC Championship game?

He has.  Has largely made up for the loss of Dion Lewis, though White seems to be more of a big play guy whereas Lewis was reliable in the short game.

That's the biggest thing the Pats have been missing for a few weeks -- without Lewis, Edelman, or a healthy Amendola, Tom hasn't had any reliable short pass targets.

Is it possible for Brady to either not throw long or actually connect?

I think Lafell could had made a play on that one. Lafell has been pretty bad lately.
