Let's see what George Karl can do with Cousins. I don't have a hatred for the guy, nothing like I detested Lambier and the Pistons. He tried to hurt people. I think right now, Cousins is too immature to be a championship caliber player. I know he is playing for a dysfunctional organization, but with his talent, this team is still near a high lottery pick. While it is not all his fault, he is not doing the things he needs to do to be a better defender. His teammates can't trust he will help defend. He spends too much time whining, and letting the last play bother the next play. He is a great talent who will put up big numbers, but unless a coach like Karl gets through to him what it takes to win a championship, I don't think he leads the Kings past the 8th seed in the West.
Cousins has youth on his side, but the Kings go nowhere until Gasol, Duncan and others retire. The Kings will not be better than the Clippers, Thunder, Rockets or Grizzlies unless he gains maturity. For that matter, I can see the Wolves and Lakers making good moves and overtaking the Kings. He could certainly improve the Celtics and would do better in a healthy system. But I still don't think he has the mentality to be a championship player. We would have to give up too much to get him from the Kings, and be stuck as a middling playoff team, arguing with each other Celticsblog about if Brad Stevens is working well with Cousins, and who should go.
