Just reflecting that the last three championship games for my teams (Celtics and Patriots) were brutal losses.  The 2 Giants games and the 7th game to the Lakers.  I am not a Sox or Bruins fan so I got nothing out of their championships.   Glad to have the winning feeling again.

So lucky that we've had so many opportunities over the last 15 years. Great to have another win.

All three of those losses were painful, but perhaps the two Pats' ones moreso because they depended heavily on fluke/highly improbable plays.

I don't know man.  I'd rather swim naked in a sea of scorpions than watch game 7 against the Lakers in 2010 again.  That loss still haunts me to this day.

I concur, that was excruciating. Seeing replay of Gasol touching the floor before getting his shot off and not getting called for an up and down was tough. Is it any wonder, then, that I was already prepared to protest had the Pats lost tonight, because the refs didn't call rough the kicker on Seattle in the first quarter?  ;D

Right in front of the official, too (it was either Joey Crawford, or Dan Crawford.).  I'm now going to do it to myself, lol. ;D

Ya know, I'm sitting here, enjoying this win.... And now I'm thinking about the most devastating loss of my life

the media is going crazy with this lynch/wilson play call at the end of the game.

i do understand peoples' criticism of that play, though IMO throwing is not really radical at all on a 2nd down in that situation. if that pass is incomplete, nobody would be talking about it.
if it's a TD, then carroll is a genius and wilson is one of the best of all time.
it's the INT that makes it so crucial.

but why does this have to be so black and white?

the pats were likely expecting the run, and the hawks went with a pass instead. that's nothing extraordinary, even with lynch, who was good but not great in this game. and wilson is elite. there's nothing wrong with putting the ball in that man's hands.

and here's my real point.

imagine wilson throws a TD there. instead of the narrative being that carroll blew the game, the narrative is that BB lost it by not calling a time out with 1 minute to go; also BB wasted a timeout on the previous drive when the pats mysteriously decided to do their eligible lineman gimmick and got confused when they'd already been marching down the field. that horrific play call cost them a time out.

both coaches made mistakes.

i feel like this carroll play call story is getting legs for two unfortunate reasons.

1. some pats fans still feel the need to bash carroll even though he's proved he's an incredible coach. (IMO the way the hawks defended their title this year was inspiring)

2. the national media, many of whom hate the pats, want a scapegoat to explain why the "cheaters" won

the seahawks are a great team, and maybe the coaching staff made a mistake. but the way this is already being over-magnified detracts from what the pats accomplished against a worthy opponent in an incredible game.

Well said. TP. If that pass went for a TD, Carroll's a genius, and not one single person—not one—questions the call. Truth is, Seahawks shouldn't have even been in the game at that point. Bad INT by Brady in the first quarter, bad Pats D near the end of the first half, lucky catch by Kearse—this game probably should've been over much sooner than it was.

Belicheck not calling a time out was stupid...period.  Money in the bank would have said that Seattle would run it in for a touchdown, so why let half the time remaining run down and take away opportunity from your quarterback?  Stupid.

Carroll's call (or whoever made it)....STUPID beyond belief!  No reason to pass, and no, he wouldn't have been called a genius if it turned into a touchdown.  Everybody would have said "Whew, glad that didn't get intercepted".

For a man who said little this week, Lynch showed more brilliance in his response to the situation, saying that it's a team game.  Other Seattle players were more open with their criticism of the play...and rightfully so.

A great game that should have had a finale where Belicheck calls time out, Seattle runs it in for a score, Brady gets a little less than a minute left to drive the team down for a tying FG in the final seconds and then overtime...

...it was within their grasp.

Legacy game.  Brady and Belichick are the Greatest Of All Time  End of story.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

It freaked me out at the time, too, but think about it. It was only 2nd down. If Seattle scores, the Pats have preserved all of their timeouts and only need a FG. The Pats can't win if Seattle scores *and* they don't have enough timeouts to run all of their routes on offense. So you need a stop on 2nd down, then you call the timeout. If they score on 3rd down, you still have multiple timeouts and can run ~3 plays to get 40 yards and kick a FG. If they don't score on 3rd down, you call timeout and have 1 play to win the Super Bowl.

It wouldn't have been crazy to call the timeout of course, but stupid, period? Not in the Pats playbook. There is no football team on the planet more aware of what they are doing at that point in a game.

Hey does anyone know if the mayor of Seattle has to make our mayor like a latte or something to settle a bet?

I don't see how you do call a time out there by BB if they had Seattle without a doubt runs the ball. With less time it compels them to pass which they did. And the rest is history.
