well, i checked his shot charts and the vast majority of his shots were within 3-4 feet of the basket. anything farther and he cant make a bucket reliably. so far in his career he doesnt seem to have developed any sort of mid-range game, and forget 3 pointers.

how much to you pay for this sort of offense?

Bismack Biyombo is to Larry Sanders what Nick Young is to Kobe Bryant.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
He's one of three players who I want from Charlotte, the other two being Noah Vonleh and PJ Hairston.  Would MJ be dumb enough to give us those guys for, say, Bradley, KO, and Bass?  Ahaha I know - I'm just having some fun, lol. ;D

Best chance of getting Biz is to simply submit a large enough offer sheet for the Hornets to NOT match!!!

I would offer a contract starting at $7-8 million and see how much they value him.

Smitty77
We will have money and should make an offer. I think we should also offer Jordan a max and make the clips match. Unless we get one of the three bigs in draft FA is the way to go for a rim protector.

I haven't done too much research on him but I think he is a player we should take a chance on. He has decent stats in limited minutes. He is going to be a restricted free agent and the Hornets have a decent amount of bigs on their roster right now. Such as: Al Jefferson (free agent 2015), Cody Zeller, and Noah Vonleh.

With Larry Sanders and his "issues", Bismack might be a better option

P.S. This is only if we don't get a center in the draft.

Here are his stats (i don't know how to embed, sorry):

thanks for the thread and a tp, since no one should have zero tps here.  ;D but my honest suggestion is that if you are going to start a thread advocating acquiring some player, then do some homework about that player or folks will have a hard time taking your posts seriously.

as an example, go to the "do we have the best bench..." thread and scroll down to see Roy's post with stats. THAT is a persuasive post.

Haha thanks for the advice. I had just been thinking about it and wanted to get his name out there to see what people thought. I just think if we get him for the right price he could be a valuable player for us. Since for better or worse, we are developing players and not really trying to compete for championship right now.

All and all I think he has potential, which is the type of player I think the C's need right now.

Yah Noah Vonleh was definitely a player I wanted to move up and draft. That kid seems to have pretty good overall offensive game. I just don't know about his defense. KO and Bass and a late first round pick would definitely be worth it to me. I just don't think they want Kemba and Bradley next to each other.

biyombo seems to be a back-up quality center given his lack of offense. since the celtics already have seller, who is also a back-up level talent at center, do the celtics really have the salary space to pay $4-6 million for a third-string center?

unless people here think biyombo is preferable to zeller. is that the case? are folks saying biyombo should replace zeller?

Biyombo is undersized for the position.  Has no offense.  So he's a defense only, smaller, possibly more mobile Kendrick Perkins?  It all screams backup 5 to me.  And we already have Zeller for that.

I'm not against Biyombo in Boston, I just don't think I'd be willing to give up anything significant to get a player who doesn't project to start for us.

No offense, only defense? You mean like the savior of the Celtics franchise DeAndre Jordan??

A smaller but younger more mobile Perkins? You mean the reason we never won a championship after 2011??
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I've never understood the fascination with him.  in the games I've seen him play, he hasn't shown much.  at best he's looked like a back up center.
he rebounds and plays defense. He's not a great offensive player but he doesn't need to be.  He's only 22 years old. He could develop into a Ben Wallace type.   He's been starting with al Jefferson out and the team has been playing better.  This is also partially because MKG is back though. The two of them make an impact defensively.
you've been his fanboy for awhile now so forgive me if I would prefer an opinion from someone who hasn't been beating the drum to trade everything but the kitchen sink to get him.

in that games I've seen him play (admittedly just a handful), he's a so-so rebounder and ok defender.  could block shots but was out of position on his man more often than he should have been.  his offense is awful.

He could be a good backup at some point but this kid is not the future all-star some here make him out to be.  If I was kind, I'd rate him on Zeller's level but I don't think he's as good as Zeller from what I've seen

He's young!

That's all I really have. But on CB that's all you reallly need to state. Everyone bases evaluations on age around here.
thank you.  that seems to be his biggest draw -- his age.  that and his height and the fact he plays for a different team and a lot of people seem to think the grass is always greener somewhere else

It's been said in other threads... Biyombo isn't really undersized. He's got a 7'7 wingspan and a 9'3 standing reach. He's also crazy athletic.  All that matters a lot more than where the top of his head is.

He's a quality rebounder and defender.  They have won their last 8 out of 9 games and biyombo has started.  The team's defensive rating is significantly higher with biyombo (and mkg) in the game. It's not a coincidence that they started winning once those guys got more minutes.

He's also only 22 years old and clearly still improving.  He's averaging a double double over his past 5 games and multiple articles have been written about his improving game.

There were rumors that he was older than his listed age when he first entered the draft.  From what I researched, the only basis for these rumors was that he was from Africa.  They actually took him to a bone age specialist who did x-Rays and determined his growth plates were still open. Based on that they specialist said he was no more than 16-17, but not 18.  So actually,  4 years later he might even be younger than the 22 years he is listed as.

He didn't have a lot of basketball experience when he first entered. I would totally bring him in. Some of you guys need to brush up on your biyombo research before dismissing him.

As someone who has debated the merits of Biyombo many times before (with many of the same posters in this thread, no less), he's still not worth it.

Beyond the small sample size, of which you're surely aware, the correlation should not be introduced as causation: The only legitimately 'good' team that the Hornets beat over that stretch were the Miami Heat -- it took them overtime to notch 80 points against a crippled Pacers team, they beat the Pelicans because Kemba Walker erupted for 31 points. Same song second verse for the Raptors game, but it was Gerald Henderson going for 30+ (Walker only notched 29 that game).

If you have two of your starting wing players scoring 50+ points in a game, you're probably going to win it -- Bismack or no Bismack. That said, he is a solid defensive player, and if you're looking for a D-League Ben Wallace, you could do much worse.

Ok so it's a small sample size, but I read that they have the highest defensive rating in the league when Biyombo is on the court.
