Biyombo is undersized for the position. Has no offense. So he's a defense only, smaller, possibly more mobile Kendrick Perkins? It all screams backup 5 to me. And we already have Zeller for that.
I'm not against Biyombo in Boston, I just don't think I'd be willing to give up anything significant to get a player who doesn't project to start for us.
It's been said in other threads... Biyombo isn't really undersized. He's got a 7'7 wingspan and a 9'3 standing reach. He's also crazy athletic. All that matters a lot more than where the top of his head is.
He's a quality rebounder and defender. They have won their last 8 out of 9 games and biyombo has started. The team's defensive rating is significantly higher with biyombo (and mkg) in the game. It's not a coincidence that they started winning once those guys got more minutes.
He's also only 22 years old and clearly still improving. He's averaging a double double over his past 5 games and multiple articles have been written about his improving game.
There were rumors that he was older than his listed age when he first entered the draft. From what I researched, the only basis for these rumors was that he was from Africa. They actually took him to a bone age specialist who did x-Rays and determined his growth plates were still open. Based on that they specialist said he was no more than 16-17, but not 18. So actually, 4 years later he might even be younger than the 22 years he is listed as.
He didn't have a lot of basketball experience when he first entered. I would totally bring him in. Some of you guys need to brush up on your biyombo research before dismissing him.
